May I recommend that you mention to the vets treating Penny that dosages for greyhounds may need to be adjusted relative to the dose that would be given to another breed of the same weight. Greyhound physiology is different from other dogs and this may not have been taken into account when the dose was calculated. I'd ask Dr. Couto his opinion to be sure, but that is my understanding of dosing GHs. Gentle scritches to Penny. Guest Spencers_Greyt Posted October 31, 2008 Share Posted October 31, 2008 Penny update: It's been a day and a half since the overdose. She is still in ICU and doing okay. Her bloodwork looks good. She does have a fever and is stiff when she walks, both probable side effects of the medication. The doctors are slightly more optomistic today that she could pull thru this. The maker of the drug is advising them, and they too said that it is possible for her to pull thru this. I am very hopeful, but trying to be realistic and remember that she could die from this. tornadosgirl Posted November 2, 2008 Author Share Posted November 2, 2008 Another update: Penny is holding on. She seems very tired, but otherwise is okay. She has lots of shaved areas all over her body so that they can put the IV in a different place every day and so they can draw blood from different spots. She looks awful because of that, but I'll take that if that's the worst of it. So far, except for diarrhea and a temp last night (not today), she is doing good. Her doctor went out and got her a rotisserie chicken at the grocery store! Of course she loves it! The doctors say another week or so until we can begin to think that she might pull thru this.
