  1. A friend's greyhound has been diagnosed via biopsy to have lymphoma in her abdomen. Sandi, age 10, had the HGE symptoms of vomiting and bloody diarrhea. An ultrasound showed a mass in the abdomen. She lost 12 lbs. in one week. My friend was out of town caring for a relative. She has returned home and is catching up on what happened. She will be discussing treatment options with her vet. She does not have the details yet of exactly where in the abdomen the lymphoma was found. She doesn't know how many affected lymph nodes were found. Since being on prednisone Sandi has regained her appetite. What experience have you had with lymphoma in the abdomen? Did you opt for surgery only? Did you opt for chemotherapy? Did you opt for pain management only? With any or no treatment, how much longer did your dog live? I have provided contact info for Dr Couto to my friend.
  2. Hoping for a Happy-er tomorrow.
  3. The founder of the Therapaw company spoke at Dewey this year. Maybe one of her products could help, either before or after surgery. If you don't see anything on the site, try emailing her. therapaw
  4. He could be sensing the stress from you worrying about the fire. If you think it is the smoke and ashy air, try putting his muzzle on with a sock over the basket as an improvised filter.
  5. Were her eyes fixed or darting back and forth?
  6. I doubt it's a stomach bug. Often it's the food. Poop consistency can vary during the day. Mine have a firm poop initially then subsequent poops are less shaped. Adding a teaspoon of plain yogurt might help with the gas.
  7. Check out Dr Stack's site. here She has a section on anesthesia.
  8. Is there a way to view this without installing a Flash Player?
  9. Was the anti-vomit shot that Brooke got Cerenia? When both Thane and Gracie had to get it the vet warned us the needle wouldn't hurt them but the medicine itself had an afterburn and boy, did they yelp!
  10. Watching the video I kept it together until the very last seconds...."You're such a good boy". You sure were Bodie and oh, how you were loved.
  11. Was he on a lot of IV fluids? That could contribute to it but will subside.
  12. There was a thread on here recently but I can't find it. Have you considered acupuncture? I wonder if it is a nerve issue rather than a colon issue?
  13. I'd call your vet office. I've never hd that bad a hematoma from a draw on mine. Do yuo know if your grey has ever been checked for clotting problems - Von Willeband disease ? click here
  14. Here's Dr Stack's site I couldn't find the reference to reverse sneezing though.
  15. Finally some progress after 10 days. Yesterday afternoon the vet gave her some electrolytes and a syringe to squirt the solution into little M's mouth every few hours. Happily, little M is starting to act like her old self. She hasn't eaten much but she is drinking and is showing like she's on the road to recovery. Total cost so far $2300.
  16. My Gracie had an anal gland rupture. I posted it in H&M last year I think. Once it ruptured your dog felt relief. Gracie's healed so well that there's no sign/scar indicatingwhere it was. Keep an eye out for infections and check with your vet to see if a round of antibiotics should be used.
  17. The owner is pretty frazzled but hanging in there. Between the 3 vet clinics - Banfield, E-vet, and my vet - her bill is over $1700. I don't think I cheered her up when I said don't try to figure out how much a 9 lb dog has cost you per pound.....
  18. So much for happy ending...but she's getting there. Last night little M had explosive bloody diarrhea. My friend knew the smell was distinctly from a GI bleed. She finally took her to my vet where she was diagnosed as having toxicity from the Vectra. Out of range lab values: HIGH WBC 23.37 (normal 5.50-16.90) NEU 19.05 (normal 2.00-12.00) BASO .14 (normal .00-.10) PLT 520 (normal 175-500) LOW TP 4.6 (normal 5.2-8.2) ALB 1.9 (normal 2.3-4.0) RBC 5.11 (normal 5.50-8.50) HCT 35% (normal 37.0-55.0) She was treated today with: Normosol R drip, Naxcel inj, Cyanocobalamin inj, and given Lomotil to take at home. She'll get labs done tomorrow to see how she's improving.
  19. Back with a happy ending! In 3 hours at the E-vet little M got better care than in 3 days at Banfield. Banfield was content to send her home yesterday with "we don't know what else to do other than send you out of town for an ultrasound" - omitting that a local vet does ultrasounds. She spent all day in their care yet she was discharged with very dry very pale gums - obviously still dehydrated. E-vet administered IV fluid containing sucrose (?) to help give her blood some viscosity, gave subQ fluids, gave a Cerenia injection to calm the bowels, and gave a pepcid injection. She said nothing -food-medicine-water was to be given by mouth until 24 hours after vomiting had stopped (contrary to Banfield's order). By this morning little M had perked up, by lunchtime she was even better. We just got back from another visit to the E-vet for another round of IV fluids. tomorrow the catheter can come out and she can try to eat again. Thank you all for your prayers, and Dr Feeman, thank you so much for your advice.
