  5. All 3 of mine were diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis once. Wally and Pudge got to come home from the vet visit but Gracie had to stay all day. She was very de-hyrated and they had to give her the intestine-coating stuff. Within 2-3 days everybody was about back to normal. The only thing the vet and I could think might have started the episode was that I'd caught all 3 drinking from a dirty bird bath. Bird poop cooties in the water.
  6. Why thank you! That was me with Gracie and angel Oliver was in the brochure too. For the record, Gracie's actually licking peanutbutter from that applicator It was very hard to keep those dogs awake during the 2 hour photoshoot. I think each Oravet box runs about $24. My kids did not like it so we just brush now. If you need to soften in just remove the foil cover competely and put in the microwave for just a few seconds. Goes on the teeth easier.....if you can catch them.
  7. So beautiful. I am so sorry for your loss.
  8. After Gracie's vet visit for a feral cat scratch to her left lower eyelid she was given an antibiotic ointment. No cornea damage seen. After one week the initial scratch in the fur of her lower eyelid healed but the wet part of her eyelid is slightly swollen, there are at least 2 styes, a bit of discharge (white) and one stye on the right eyelid. We begin week 2 with continuing the same antibiotic ointment, plus eye drops and amoxicillin. Of course since she's on the 3rd day of that course of treatment, and I am hoping to at least see some improvement. Nope. Because I am a worrier and have now read too much online and am worrying more. A popular way to deal with styes (sebaceous gland meibomian adenomas) is surgery. Anyone here have experience dealing with eye infections and styes? How long did it take to see improvement? If you had to resort to surgery, how well did your grey do with that? Gracie's injured eye
  9. Came across this site: vetratingz.com Any members here use it?
  10. Walmart or any general pharmacy. It's a little green can. Either in the animal or people section.
  11. We use this tick remover tool and it's worked every time.
  12. With a name like Elvis did you try a fried peanut butter banana sandwich?
  13. Thanks Janet. I hadn't thought about the compress. Gracie wears eyeliner but I don't
  14. Jeff, we've heard white-glove stories here on the Marine Corps base housing. The occupant can clean the house until it is spotless and still fail inspection more than once. You're then forced to hire from an approved list of base housing cleaners. They've been know to walk in one door, out the other and miraculously the house then passes.
  15. Last Monday Gracie was scratched by a cat. The claw caught Gracie's lower eyelid making a rip about a 1/2 " long. Not deep but it did get the "wet" part of that lower lid. Vet said her cornea was not scratched and he gave her Neobacimyx (bacitracin-neomycin-polymyxin) ointment. It looked like she was healing but today I noticed something on the underside of her upper lid that resembles a stye. She's not fussing with it. The rest of the tissue and eye look OK. If it doesn't improve she'll be at the vet on Monday. In the meantime, I'm wondering about antibiotics. I have on hand Cephalexin 500mg. Would it be OK to give her this to help stave off an infection? Would using this compromise using a different antibiotic the vet might issue on Monday? Editing to add the photo from her original injury:
  16. I am sorry you lost your Jerry. I just read your posts in H&M. We lost our senior Oliver last year when he had a stroke immediately after his dental. I feel your pain.
  17. The price of Sentinel has been creeping up over the past few years. Initially I bought it at the vet's office. Then in the past year I ordered through the vet's office online connection, VetCentric. (Now nearly $184 for one year). Recently I ordered the Sentinel through SmartPak with a (reluctant) prescription from my vet. (One year for $118). Vet made the comment that if my dogs got heartworms that Sentinel/Norvaris would not honor any claims for failing to protect because I did not purchase from an actual vet. Has anyone heard this before? Also, has Sentinel had a change in packaging? Both the box and the sealed wrap on the individual pills is a different color than previously purchased pills through my vet. (It's still definitely Sentinel, white, 51-100 lbs, expires 1/13).
  18. Long gone and missing some fur. Probably got quite the headache too after the shaking that Pudge gave it. I didn't see any blood on it and it ran away.
