  1. To be honest-his bloods don’t look too awful. Sure the renal values are elevated but his red cell count is great still. Was the urine sample collected first am? Is he drinking a lot? You could offer egg whites to supplement the diet-egg whites are a very pure protein and are typically considered very palatable. Green tripe is excellent too.
  2. Hi ya-Im a LVT. I would not administer any dewormers at this time until you see your Vet Monday.
  3. Sounds like SIBO from the food change. Also, pred can play havoc with ghs-just melts muscle mass off of them. If he was my dog I would run a fecal, prophylactically de-worm him with a broad base de-wormer (need to rule out lung worm) and get him on a script gi food for the time being. W/D is a low fat (fat is hard to digest) and high fiber (the fiber will form the stools). Perhaps your vet will consider dropping the pred and try an antihistamine???
  4. Yup-need to run a urinalysis-need to know where the protein is being lost from-gut or kidneys. Also, need to know about liver function -protein being lost or not being made?
  5. Let ‘um be bald. Melatonin can in fact encourage hair re-growth but, I would be hesitant to use it when only for strictly cosmetic reasons. Melatonin is in fact a hormone and while a rather benign drug is not without side effects.
  6. I ask because typical dose is 0.1mgs/10lbs twice daily-youre getting into a pretty high dose range.
  7. Just curious how much your hound weighs????
  8. With a persistent cough and a fever its absolutely time for a transtracheal wash. Completely agree with this vet.
  9. It may have been a tape segment that you saw-tapes don’t show on fecal floats. Need praziquantel to rid them.
  10. When was the last distemper given? Most vets are giving it every 3 years now. Even then I would still run a titer-most likely the booster wont even be necessary.
  11. Certainly does NOT sound like IBD. Scopying after starting steroids? I wouldnt expect to obtain valid biopsy samples. Please, please reconsider a second opinion. At the very least reach out to Dr Couto. https://www.greyhoundhealthinitiative.org
  12. One needs to consider if its bilateral or unilateral. If its bilateral I would move forward with the tieback. Just even thinking about my dog suffocating is enough to make me sick. Not a good way to go.
  13. Start gabapentin (IMO tramadol is worthless).
  14. Have the nail removed-otherwise this will be a continuous source the inflammation and pain.
  15. Scroll down to section 3...https://www.idexx.com/en/veterinary/reference-laboratories/sdma/sdma-faqs/
  16. Idexx does provide that info to the vets.
  17. I suggest a second opinion-things arent adding up. What was your dogs Total protein (TP)?
  18. I would be very suspicious of your dog not having ibd.
  19. In my experience gh’s drop weight (muscle mass) like a stone while on pred. Systemic side effects are typically much much lower with budesonide.Forgive me but, did you say you did check rads already? I’ve never heard of a dog coughing from ibd. Ok-a bit off track here but, gotta ask-who intubated your dog? Often it’s the techs job-if he or she wasn’t being careful it could be missed. Also, if propofol was used it could have been your dog wasn’t taking breaths at the time.
  20. Gh’s being gh’s I would guess that if the other shoulder was palpated in the same manner you may have had the same response. I’m sure that corn still hurts (hulling or dremmeling only removes the surface of the corn).
  21. IMO it’s not the anesthesia but, the pre-meds they gave. Find out which drugs they used-see if he had an opioid. If so, because he didn’t have anything painful they could have reversed it (with naxolone)—-avoiding all of the post op whinning. Food for thought.
