  1. Best wishes to you, Beetle_Slayer. Tough times. We are with you.
  2. Glad Lola is perking up a little. The lack of interest in eating is very distressing. Our Django refused his kibble even with cat food or stinky fishes mixed in when his very elderly lab cross 'sister' passed on and we had to feed raw for quite awhile until he came around. Take your time to decide to foster or adopt. If you think you will be ready very soon, that's great but it is a very emotional time... (I try not to make any important decisions until my head is a little clearer).
  3. Welcome Donna and Agadore! Very interesting name he has. Don't have any advice but sending good thoughts your way.
  4. So sorry you did not have more time with her. Sending best wishes for you and Lola. Take good care of yourself. Margo
  5. Very sorry that this has happened to Jackie. We are in the middle/end of it with our lab/pyr cross. Hailey got state of the art radiation and chemo, and once we got through that for the price of a nice car, we got a month before the sh** hit the fan again. She can't have NSAIDS, so we have been following a somewhat different protocol than most. She gets Percocets (Oxycondone) instead of Tramadol, as it seemed to make her a little agitated, but I have them in reserve just in case...as well as gabapentin, and because her wrist was getting hugely swollen very quickly, our regular vet suggested Prednisone (just about the most potent anti-inflamatory) which immediately worked wonders. We were even able to reduce her pain meds a bit. For the moment, she's doing pretty well...Wishing all the best for your girl. Lots of ice cream...
  6. Best wishes for your girl. We have osteo in the house and it's a terrible thing...
  7. One can see what a character she was from your lovely photos. So sorry you lost your beautiful girl. They are never with us long enough.
  8. Very sorry you lost your beautiful boy. I know how sore your heart must be.

Beautiful pictures of your handsome man. So sorry. Godspeed Ryan.
  10. That's a very thoughtful gesture in a difficult time for you. Best wishes.
  11. I'm just making the dosing schedule up since I have had very little direction from the experts. "Give as needed" isn't very useful. I can't tell whether it hurts her when she is just lying down. She limps moderately when on her walks - she is definitely still enjoying them - and limps heavily when she gets up and around the house. She can have her dose of Percocet (oxycondone 5/325 one and 1/4 tabs) up to 4 times a day, but that still leaves overnight partially unmedicated, which is why I'm giving the Tramadol extended release over night as it has a 8-12hr window. The oncologist thinks that the tylenol component has a slight anti-inflamatory effect, and I'm inclined to agree. She hasn't suggested Gabapentin at this point. What are its benefits over opioids?
  12. Sounds like you gave him a hell of a good time and were a good and loving Mother. Godspeed Poodle.
  13. We have been treating our lab/pyr cross for osteo since Jan. She has had state of the art radiation, chemo and Aclasta (bone rebuilder). Because she recently began limping, we had her re-x rayed and the radiologist could not see any recurrence of the cancer at the site (the "wrist") or fractures, but her wrist is quite swollen. They don't know what's going on. I know that pain management is a true art, and I don't feel we are giving her the best treatment in this department. Our oncologist only seems to use certain drugs, so I am asking if the GT community has any further suggestions. She cannot take Metacam as she got bloody diarreah after only one day although it was very effective. She is on Percocet 3-4 times a day, with Tramadol over night and is still limping heavily. Do you think she would benefit from trying other NSAIDS, to help with the inflammation? Or if she reacted so quickly and badly to Metacam, would she likely respond in a similar fashion to other NSAIDS? Or, which ones might be worth a try, as our Dr. has not suggested any. Any comments would be much appreciated.
  14. I think it is the shedding season. Django is also shedding like crazy.
  15. My lab pyr/lab cross finished her iv chemo and no further oral chemo was even discussed. Aclasta, the bone building iv drug might still be useful. We had a few rounds of that stuff in combo with her chemo.
  16. Very sorry to see that Dammit Arrow has gone to the bridge. My heart goes out to you. It's never long enough that we have them.
  17. Best wishes for your beautiful man. May you have many good times together in the future.
  18. 16 years...what a good dog mother you are. Both of you were blessed.
  19. Positive energy coming from the North! Best wishes for your girl.
  20. A truly beautiful tribute for a very special hound.
