  1. Hey All, Our gal Porsche has been having some infrequent urinary incontinence and we've had to make a couple trips to the vet recently trying to determine the root of the problem. Our former vet, Dr. Eric Kapke recently relocated to Florida and we consulted the vet list at the top of the page before going to see Dr. Bill Neuman at Broad Ripple Animal Clinic. However, after only 2 visits we are over $500 into tests with others needed and I am wondering what other options we have in the greater Indianapolis area. Dr. Kapke's prices were much more reasonable, and I feel like I'm paying so the clinic can have new flat screen TV's and K Cups for the Keurig. I've contacted a few of our GPA members locally and have a good option with Meridian Veterinary Clinic in Greenwood but I'm curious if there are any other Grey-savvy vets in the area. Thanks!!!
  2. My gal Porsche gets fruit and veggies with every meal. I just buy the bulk frozen fruits and veggies (carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, green beans, etc) and pop them in the microwave for about a minute with a little water. I wet her food anyway, so I just toss a handful of produce in a little dish, add a little water, and zap it while I scoop out her food and change her water. She LOVES the extras and I really think the veggies help keep her teeth clean since they aren't totally soft.
  3. I wanted to update everyone on some progress I've seen over the last week or so. I was initially using the 'wrong' coconut oil so that could explain why the results were taking longer than expected. I've since switched to the 'correct' virigin oil as well as adding Missing Link to her food. The shedding has all but stopped an I expect to see that happen in the near future.
  4. Thanks for the quick response Ramonaghan! The foster was feeding Fromm which I have stuck with since day one. She goes through a 30lb bag in about 3 weeks so I do change the 'flavor' up but her stools have been very consistent even when I switch. I did have to bathe her once about a month after I got her due to her peeing in her crate and then laying in it. That's when I started to see the shedding. I did use an oatmeal dog shampoo and rinsed really well, so I don't think that could have done it, but maybe another quick bath will do just what you said. I brush her every 2-3 days, but the Missing Link is ssomething I've been interested to try anyway.
  5. Porsche has been with me for right at 2 months and has been very easy going and for the most part trouble free. About 3 weeks in, however, she started shedding like crazy. This was not an issue when she first arrived at my home and was not a problem for the 5 weeks she was with her foster home either. Now she loses as much hair as a friend's yellow Lab when I brush her down! I tried fish oil capsules for about 3 weeks with no results and have since switched to coconut oil added to every meal with little to no improvement noted. The hair does seem to be filling back in (no bald spots, etc) but she is a little flakey as well. Another odd thing I've noticed is that it only seems to be her 'lower' back near her hips and her bottom that really lose the most hair and have the dryer skin. Any suggestions? FWIW I have also been giving her Zyrtec as she seems to have mild allergies (reverse sneezing, rubbing her muzzle on the carpet). Should I just give it a while longer and hope for results or are there some other home remedies I should try?
  6. Porsche eats 2 cups of dry food along with about half a cup of frozen fruit or frozen veggies that have been thawed in the microwave and is fed twice per day. She's about 63lbs and will lick her bowl clean (literally) and still act like she's hungry. She's not very active as I live alone and work during the day, but acts like she wants more. I think she just loves food.
  7. Where do you folks feed them their necks? I'd be worried about frozen turkey bits finding their way into my carpet or the crevices in the kitchen and then thawing out.
