Our big guy used to go bonkers, whirling and snapping on his leash and he corrupted our other dog into reacting similarly. The last straw was when they pulled me over and dragged me 30 feet on my belly over the snow to get to a little fluffball that was having an equivalent fuss. I took the non-grey to basic obedience where they taught us to distract with a treat when we encountered another dog. I had to just give in and travel with a cookie bag, and over time they learned to look at me automatically when they saw or heard a barking dog on walks. Worked like a damn. I still carry the cookie bag just in case, but it did eradicate the behaviour. Takes time but it works!

Cancer is such a terrible thing to watch progressing. Very sorry you lost your Ikaris.

My experience with osteo in the leg is that it is a hard bump. Scritches for your Gilby.

I'd let him eat anything he wants. Nothing wrong with turkey or chicken! Pred settles down inflammation and swelling but comes with a steep price in side effects as the dose increases. I would get an xray to confirm whether it's osteo, best to know I think. Here's hoping it's not osteo, though!!

Interesting subject! My boy doesn't use his paws as much as our shepherd cross to manipulate things but will hold a bone in them.

We mostly use cheap fleece booties with velcro straps. It's an art to get the straps tight enough. I have a new pair of expensive leather soled ones but they are harder to get on. The tips do wear out though as do the soles, so I put rubber bumpers made of old bike tires glued on the front. I plan to get some of that "Plastidip" stuff to reinforce the soles.
