Guest TheModernMutt Posted February 22, 2013 Share Posted February 22, 2013 Hello all, Just wanted to take a minute and formally introduce myself, and our newest addition. My name is Chris, and together with my partner, we've recently adopted DLT Dragon Slayer. We brought her home on Wednesday 2/20/2013, and she's adjusted very well. Slayer does have previous home experience so I think that has added to her ease of transition. She's recently turned 5, and is every bit a mature little lady - well large lady, she's 65lbs and about as long as a limousine! We've had absolutely ZERO problems introducing her to our 11yr old mixed breed male. In fact, today she commandeered his bed as her own, AND HE LET HER! He looked at me as if "what the hell is this??", but then he just went lay in her bed instead! We have extensive dog experience in the past, having adopted a Weimaraner, Cocker Spaniel, Doberman, Mini Aussie, and when I was younger I did have an Italian Greyhound as well. This is our first true experience owning a site hound (not counting the IG), and we couldn't be happier with our decision. I'm continuing my research and education of the breed, and I'm actually reading the 'dummies' book. I also have a good support group of close friends with greyhounds, and they've been very helpful and accommodating with answers to my questions. I'm a photographer, and had a pet photography studio a few years ago, so after it quits raining I hope to get Slayer out in the yard for some nicer photos. But in the meantime, here are a few very quick grab shots from her first night with us - and a video of her introduction to Wrangler. (they met for half an hour before the video outside the home.) She's a complete doll, and we made a lot of progress today. She actually came to let me know she needed to potty, she went into her crate on her own, she hasn't whimpered and seems more relaxed, and as I said she took over Wranglers bed which tells me she's getting closer to him already. They both 'patrolled' the fence line together when I let them out this morning, so they seem to be getting along just fine. I don't know why I was so nervous! Gives the rest of us something extra to admire. When we moved to the Houston area last summer, I closed my studio and haven't ventured to re-open it yet. Instead I've been shooting film and working in the darkroom again. My first project is to get a nice black and white image of her printed up.
