seattlegreygirl
Hello everyone, I discovered one large and several small spots on Pugsley's abdomen and legs which look like bruising. She hasn't had any accidents that I am aware of, and this seems to have come on suddenly as I don't recall seeing these bruises on her before today. Has anyone seen anything like this before? I am going to schedule a vet appt. in the morning for her. She seems totally fine and is still playing and eating normally, but I am worried about her. If anyone has seen something this before, I'd love to know what it might be! Quote http://divahound.com
Brandiandwe
There's a thread below called 'Internal bleeding? Bruise?' which you might like to look at.
Guest greytone
I'm not sure what that is but I suggest getting her to the vet ASAP. That doesn't look good at all.
JJNg
Definitely get try to get an appointment with the vet as soon as possible. Unexplained bruising, especially multiple spots, can be caused by clotting problems or a low platelet count. These can be secondary to a number of possible underlying problems, such as tick-borne diseases, immune-mediated thrombocytopenia, or toxins like rat poison. Or it could just be trauma related, but I'd definitely recommend getting some bloodwork done to rule out other possibilities. Hubcitypam
Bella had this and it showed up quite suddenly. Please let us know what the vet finds in the morning.
Guest Scouts_mom
Keep an eye on her tonight to make sure she still feels fine and that the bruising doesn't spread. It may just be from an accident when you weren't around. But if things change for the worse, get to the vet asap. Otherwise follow your plan of contacting her vet tomorrow. 4My2Greys
How is Pugsley this morning? Any changes that you can tell? If you haven't already outline the bruise with a marker. That way you'll be able to see if and how much it is spreading.

Agreed--I find this concerning because I can see multiple spots of bruising.
Charlies_Dad
Agree, vet visit is in order as soon as possible. I hope it's nothing serious but the bruising is in an area that raises concerns. seattlegreygirl
Pugsley is at the e-vet, we took her in late last night. Platelets & white blood cells are low, they are giving her plasma. I'll know more when I transfer her from the e-vet to our vet later this morning. Hopefully, we can get a diagnosis soon. Please keep her in your thoughts! Quote http://divahound.com

seattlegreygirl
We spoke with the e-vet and the vet this morning and both agreed that she needed to see a specialist. So, she is now with the specialist/internist and they are running tests. It looks like it could be Thrombocytopenia - they are running a tick panel, plus x-ray & chest ultrasound to rule out a tumor. Unfortunately, her bruising is worse and her urine is bloody at this point. She's still trying to be her wonderful, sweet self though! I am hoping to hear back from the vet later this afternoon, on pins and needles right now. I just want her to be able to heal and recover from this! Houndtime
Please ask them to check her spleen. It is often overlooked. There is an article on NGAP's home page concerning this issue. Guest OurLacyandJax
And see if you can put her on Doxycycline straight away - just in case it is tick related. But before you do, please ask the vet to draw some blood in a EDTA tube (lavender top, i think) for a PCR tick panel in North Carolina State. They came recommended to me by OSU (and others here have used them).
