Guest FreddyGirl
A little history: Princess Bobbi came to me at age 8 1/2 with a left front leg limp. After x-rays, it was found that she has arthritis and a bone growth on the shoulder. This has caused the permanent limp, thus head bobbing while walking, which has caused 2 compressed discs in her neck, leading to rear end weakness. She goes for accupuncture every other week. She takes Deramaxx and Tramadol daily. I want her as pain free as possible. She takes organic liquid glucosamine with hcl purchased from the holisitc vet and has had n glucosamine/chondroiti since I got her 3 years ago. Household accommodations have already been made. I bought a minivan that I can readily lift her into, installed a ramp off of the deck to the yard and purcahsed another tv for the spare bedroom that I now use as a den as my regular tv is upstairs. GOD forbid I go up there without her, separating her from me and her pack!!!! Not ever again. It was fortuitous though as I had ACL surgery in July and couldn't do the stairs either. I also covered the hard wood floors on the entire first floor and kitchen floor with rubber backed machine washable runners as she was starting to slip. Well, over the last week, her limp has gotten worse so I took her in to the vet yesterday. She did xrays while she was awake. The excellent news is that there is no sign of osteo. However, there is so much arthritis, coupled with the bone growth, that the shoulder socket is virtually a solid mass. To walk efficiently, meaning with less pain, she needs to walk with a straight leg, like a peg leg. Needless to say, she is not doing this. Yesterday, she had 2 doses of 2 Tramadol tablets. This isn't enough, as she woke me up around 3AM with her crying. I found her in the living room standing up. So, I called the vet again. I can give her 3 doses of Tramadol a day. I will try this for a couple of days to see how she does. If more pain management is needed, I will consider Prednisone. Side effects of increased appetite, well, if you have followed any of my posts about Bobbi, you know how I jump for joy over that, works well. Increased thirst and urination, not so much. However, if it makes her more comfortable, I can deal with it. My goal is for a good quality of life with little to no pain. So, please keep Bobbi in your thoughts. She is my heart, my baby, and hearing her cry crushes me. Thank you all, Nancy

Guest FreddyGirl
She actually did swing her leg out straight for 2 steps today. She is now getting 2 Tramadol every 8 hours so as to be covered 24 hours. We will see how this goes for another day. The only walking she does is down the ramp in the backyard to potty. Otherwise, when we go for walks, she is in her "chariot." So, fortunately, she does not have to walk that much as I have a rather small house, working in our favor. Waiting to hear from the vet because less than 2 hours after a Tramadol dose last evening, she got up and cried. I want to see what else we can do for her. Appetite, what appetite? Robin said it in her thread. Let's put it this way, she maintains 63-65 lbs. Bobbi is a challenging dog to feed&^^$$&(()&%#@!@#$%&( There are times when she won't eat a real meal for 3 days, but when Auntie robin comes over, she eats for her. I just don't know how she does while I'm at work. I do come home every day at lunch to let the pups out so I can at least check on her.
