racindog
Oh my goodness. FIRST let me be clear on one thing-YOU DID ONE OF THE MOST LOVING THINGS ANY HUMAN IS CAPABLE OF. Helping our most dearest loved ones cross over-being there with and for them- is LOVE to the max. What you did was the ULTIMATE act of love and Romeo knows and appreciates it. He would have summoned the same courage and love for you-had the shoe been on the other foot so to speak. KNOW that you acted with the most love possible. And I have to also add that nobody "killed" him. Whether you believe it on not he is OK, only his body died. And I just have to add that even though it wasn't quick I can assure you that he didn't suffer. Our God, ever just to the least of his creatures, would never permit that. He was not just his body and just because his body lingered a while doesn't mean anything other than just that- the body systems just kept going longer than normal. (Actually that happens more than you realize-we had a dog that req'd 4 shots of the euthansia solution. The vet was terribly distraught.) Who knows, Romeo may even have been an angel. The real Romeo-the wonderful happy big guy that you fell in love with is now happy, healthy and at peace and is marveling at the love you showed him when you helped him cross over. Be open minded and perhaps you will find a sign, a message confirming this for you. But if nothing else please don't condemn yourself for acting in the most loving manner any human is capable of doing. Romeo was such a very lucky guy to have a Mom as loving as you! I am so sorry. Romeo, how 'bout re-assuring your Mom with a sign?
Guest PhillyPups
Oh Leah, I so know your pain. I feel you gave Romeo the greytest gift of love we can ever give our hounds. A gift from the heart, we take their pain, let them run pain free, and the pain of loss is ours to carry. I have had to do it way too many times. No matter how many we have at home, there is a hole in our hearts that is totally our angels, and there is an empty space in the family circle. to you lady. You can call me anytime you wish if you need a shoulder. Run with the angels sweet Romeo, you are with some of the very best there are. MerlinsMum
I'm so terribly sorry. The reason it feels wrong is that everything is so raw and your whole body and mind cannot yet accept the reality of Romeo's absence. I can't even imagine how painful this must be. Letting go of someone we love is so much harder than keeping them for ourselves. You carried out the ultimate act of selfless devotion by freeing him of a pain and sickness that were not going to go away. Your pain means he is pain-free, your tears mean that he is not suffering anymore. If that isn't LOVE, I don't know what is. :grouphug :grouphug Quote Kerry with Lupin in beautiful coastal Maine. Guest CDNgreys
I'm sorry about Romeo's passing You are in enough pain as it is, please, don't add to it by beating yourself up. Romeo wouldn't want that. He knows you loved him and you showed that by freeing him from his pain! Take your time to grieve but be gentle on yourself. I too have experienced a less than peaceful passing so I understand the torment.
CaliforniaGreys
There are no words to express the sadness, none that do it justice. I am so sorry it was his time to leave. Romeo fought a fight with dignity and with grace. It wasn't that long ago that I had to let Tanner go, and like Romeo, my vet gave him enough of the drug for a dog 3 times his size. His heart kept beating and I looked at both vets and said I made a mistake. I was crushed beyond explanation. One of the vets looked at me and said, Tanner had a very strong healthy heart, but his body was broken and he was hurting, and he needed our help. Romeo, God speed handsome, run with all the Angels now pain free. Please continue to watch over those who love you.
