Last week Brandy had a dental which we (Dr. Newman suggested) thought might be the cause for her swollen glands. She took two days to recover from the anesthesia and hasn't been looking right since. I thought her glands had actually gotten smaller, but they are right back up again. She is also not eating well. I think you can see every rib and bone in her back. I put her on the scale at the vet and she gained 5 lbs. I thought that was impossible. Dr. Schenk began the accupuncture treatment for John E and then starting working on Brandy. He asked me if she had just eaten as her stomach looked full. I asked Dr. Newman to come in. I mentioned to her about the now swollen again glands and she looked at Brandy's stomach. She immediately came in with a portable ultra sound. There are no visable tumors, but she is filling up with fluid in her stomach which will eventually push into her lungs and heart. Her blood work from three weeks ago shows her liver, kidney and important values to be normal or good for a dog her age. We can look for tumors on her kidney or liver, have her see a cardiac specialist, or just let her be. Dr. Newman did not push for anything. Brandy is 12-1/2 and very frail right now. How much should I put her through. We will let her eat whatever she wants. Dr. Newman said if she gained five pounds of fluid in one week, that is very bad. Brandy only has a few weeks at the most. My heart is broken. She is more than my heart; she holds my soul.
