  4. Hi. our Shana is 14.5 and has several similar issues going on. We just take one day at a time and enjoy all of them! My Dh does carry her up and down the steps to sleep with us at night and assists with getting into the car. Her fear of that has turned into quite the diva move where she fully expects to be carried these places. He did build a ramp for the 2 front steps which has helped immensely. In this winter weather especially we have recently started using booties on her feet for the back foot drag she has. They really help and she is fine with them on. I would perhaps consider some time of boot for his back feet at least. Enjoy every moment!!!!
  5. I am so sorry to hear you lost your Morty. I had been following his story with the eye issues and the eating issues. My heart is broken next to yours!!! Please take care of yourself and remember to breathe when you feel like you can't. Hugs to you.
  6. He loves you, is showing you and that is all that matters!!!!!!! Hugs and kisses to you both
  7. I second springtimeinc. products with fresh factor, longevity and joint health. Not that that answers your question??!!
  8. As it should be for what he has been through!!! You doubted that for a second??????????
  9. Does he look bloated at all in his belly? The bloating and seizures were liver disease in my girl who was 10 when diagnosed and is over 14 now and doing well. ??..
  10. As mentioned in another thread with a non eating dog, there is a high calorie nutritional supplement like a paste in a tube I got at the vets office.. My dog that would not eat and had kidney disease loved it !!!!! My picky/ non eating at times dog is suddenly eating canned wet food by Merrick like it is crack??!!! I do end up cooking for her but simple stuff like chicken breasts and ground turkey meat.
  11. so agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is definitely one day at a time but you are all over this and attentive to all details. They certainly have a mind of their own at times like this!! My 14 yr old is celebrating her 4 yr anniversary of liver disease that was suppose do be a death sentence yrs ago. My vet teases every time he sees her ( not funny to me...) "oh, is she still with us, she is not suppose to be??!!" Keep up the love and good job you are doing for your baby!!!
  12. I completely disagree with GeorgeofNE as you are the only one to determine that. I have done syringe feedings to kick start interest and there was a "paste" in a tube at my vets that is a high calorie nutritional supplement that worked very well. I was told to try cat food, puppy food, baby food. Hang in there !!
  13. totally agree. this weather makes that hard to do, but that has been very helpful here as well.
  14. they take a lot of extra thought and care that is for sure! Feeding is a full time job for a picky skinny older dog!!!! But oh so worth it for sure
  15. yes yes and yes. My Shana at 14 is sleeping later and eating later and not eating as much. I think about it all day and it feels like I spend a lot of thought on what to get her to eat. I hope it is what the others have said, age, not as active, not as hungry. I do try to give her treats or small amounts of food throughout the day ( she does not want to start until 10-11:00am). I find she is a new fan to canned wet food ( the smallest of cans because what she likes today she does not like tomorrow??!!). How are her teeth and her mouth? I do not think I can get enough calories in with just one meal at the end of the day??!!
  16. I second the Stella and Chewy's freeze dried treat crumbled on the food. For my picky one who needs to eat, I add pieces of lunch meat on top. Tuna out of the can, broken up treats that I know she will eat ( if given as just a treat).
  17. second the Dramamine or bonine but this was with a sheltie. Not sure of the dose but it worked and he got used to rides and then loved them !
  18. I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for helping her out when she needed it the most.
  19. Congrats !! He looks like a happy fellow! The 2 on the couch is so sweet- as if I would ever see that here ( NO) !!!! Happy Happy Joy Joy for you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. well, doesn't that just say it all, what a happy girl!!!!!
  21. 12.5 yr old sheltie = $11,000 for liver disease in his last days 11 yr old greyhound= $5,000 osteo in her last months 12.5 and 11 years with those dogs = priceless. ...
  22. As a wise woman once said to me "Missing someone is a way of keeping them with us, even when they are not." Holding onto that really does help! I am sorry for your losses.
