  1. I only know what we are doing for our girl with liver disease ( not cancer but liver cirrhosis secondary to hepatitis). She is on a low protein diet ( Wellness brand) and takes Denamarin which is suppose to support liver health. The lower protein food seems easier for her to digest and we also break up the meals to give her less at one time as she was getting bloated from difficulty processing the food as a healthy liver would do. I do not know if this relates to your situation but it seems to be helping here. What liver meds are you using?
  2. ChristiK- did you ever visit a doggy biscuit boutique named Mon Bon Chien when in Paris?? My friend owned it and did mention seeing a family with greyhounds??
  3. Hi MP_ the4pack. I am sorry about Topaz. Shana is on low protein food ( no more PB kongs) and the denamarin to assist with healthy liver cells I think. She has lost the fluid weight and the repeat ultrasound looked better but the vet makes no promises. Unfortunately, we lost our 12 1/2 year old sheltie to liver disease 4 years ago also and that too was about 7- 10 days from diagnosis. So one day at a time but she looks and acts good- so we have that. Thanks for the thoughts.
  4. We pick up the antibiotic tomorrow ( do not know the name of it) and Denamarin. That is suppose to have Sam-e and Milk Thistle in it at beneficial levels. I did read that both those supplements were found to be helpful??!!
  5. The liver is very small. " endstage conformation" liver cirrhosis secondary to chronic active hepatitis is on the report. Sounds terrible when written out like that .Spleen, pancreas, gall bladder all normal.
  6. I do not know what a lepto pcr is or if one was done. They found it by an ultrasound.
  7. My 10 1/2 year old Shana has been diagnosed with liver disease and has abdominal swelling from fluid. Anyone else experience this? We do not know the cause but will treat with meds and the Dr recommends a low protein diet. Yikes.
  8. Thanks for the greetings. I will post the medical question in the health and medical forum and I look forward to checking out the greyhound play date at Applebrook!!
  9. Hi! I have been reading GT for a few months now and enjoy it so much. We have two greys, Shana adopted at 2 and now 10 1/2 and Misha adopted at 4 and now 7 1/2. Shana has blossomed from the shy scared dog we adopted to a happy sweet, lover girl. Misha overcame her initial sleep aggression and now knows the benefits of lovin' and snuggling!!! We have gotten great ideas and suggestions from this site including foot booties, best bullysticks, mushers secret, biotene, and burpdog biscuits are a must for Misha's upcoming birthday! Now to a question: Shana has been diagnosed with severe liver disease and chronic active hepatitis. You would not know it to see her eat, walk, snuffle in the yard, but she has fluid in her abdomen. Does anyone have any experience or information on this to share? We are starting medications, milk thistle, and a low protein diet. Thanks in advance for any thoughts of treatment or outcome. She is the dearest, sweetest, quietest thing and we love them both very much!!!! Misha Shana
