  1. Hello! I have a question and feeling very desperate! Can Rymidal cause kidney problems and if so, what should we give her? She started on Rymidal during/ after her radiation. Her creatinine ( sp?) was high all along at 2.4 ish. But her levels were slightly higher since the day we adopted her. She did not tolerate Tramadol the one time we gave it to her!!! She clearly has more leg pain now, we are adding Gabapentin, but on her blood work, her creatinine was 14??? Is that even possible?? We are going to retest it. She is not eating well at all, and does not feel good obviously but will go on a walk, pee, poop, drink.... thanks in advance
  2. My girl had one that got pretty large on one side. She did not have an infection and we kept a close eye on it. It completely resolved on its own never to return?? We were not eager to do surgery and my vet said only if it was affecting swallowing, eating or if it had an infection. I can show you pictures if you want, but it completely went away one day just as oddly it appeared.
  3. If I had to perform to get a treat... oh vey! FREE !! why the heck not spoil them?? They love me unconditionally and I love them back. A dorito for me and a dog treat for them... !! If going out or coming in for a treat is doing something, I wonder who is the trained one there ???.....
  4. I am sorry for your loss of Paul.. You are right, they are never here long enough !!!!! Hugs
  5. Thank you so much JJNg. I wonder as long as it does not hurt her, and maybe... help her, it is an option. ?!
  6. Hello, Has anyone heard of using Alendronate ( also called Fosamax) a pill form similar to the pamidronate that is given by IV? I have huge concerns with the IV treatment, the time it takes, the emotional toll it takes in keeping my dog calm and still ( for my dog and me). I was wondering if there is a pill form and read about this Alendronate which is also a bisphosphonate drug like pamidronate?? Thanks in advance.
  7. Grey_dreams congrats on your diligence, perseverance and huge heart to help this dog !!!! How great that you are seeing results. You should repost this report in the "Good for you" thread where no negativity is allowed !!! Jeez, can't you just sit in the happiness of good news and a dog who is doing better without a science report??!!!! You go Grey_dreams, nice job taking care of a special needs dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. What indicated a possible problem? Misha was getting radiation and they tested her blood for another treatment to go with that and they said her creatinine was high with some protein in her urine. NO symptoms on her end. Turns out her creatinine has been high since we got her in 2007 and other then lowering the protein in her food just to play it safe, she is fine. Get more info for sure and a second opinion.
  9. We just finished 4 weeks of radiation in March. Yes, she was under anesthesia each time. I do not know what kind or how much, but she came out of it each time nicely.
  10. I am so sorry for your loss. She reminds me of Shana, a bit different, quirky and by all means stubborn. I have been so sad about it since you mentioned it to me. Hugs to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. NOoooooooooooooooooooo! I am so sorry for your loss. He was just so special. I am just so sad to read this....
  12. cas0673- hi, we saw the oncology specialist at Veterinary Oncology Services and Research Center in West Chester, unfortunately the radiation center is in Chalfont, Pa HVS is in Malvern is around the corner from us. That would be easier travel wise but we started with this place and DrJeglum. Good luck with the chemo on Wed. That is our first radiation day, or I would invite you over!! krissn333- did you try pamidronate with Sutra along with the radiation or with something else? The protocol they are recommending is with the first radiation, and then every 3 weeks after for 4 times. Four weeks of radiation, 1st and 4th week with the pamidronate and then 2 more times 3 weeks apart with the pamidronate. She does not exhibit pain so they are not doing it for that it would seem, just to get it going as they feel it will help overall with that area of bone.? Greytblackdog- what did the radiation oncologist tell you? That it could help with bone recovery, strengthening that area, killing the bad cells? How much radiation did your doggy get and you are not starting the pamidronate until after the radiation is done??
  13. Thanks Tricia, I am excellent at denial and hopeful thinking and I choose to think the best of this treatment - what choice do I have?- She is the strongest, toughest girlie and she does not even know anything is wrong. ! Maybe she will be a medical miracle . that is my story and i am sticking to it........
  14. Thanks for the responses. We are not in a position to do the amputation and do not want to go that route. She has no symptoms and it does seem we got to it early? The bone still looks good on either side or around it ( I am sure you all know more then I do about what I am trying to describe), and the Dr felt we could go this route for whatever results we would get. I am still a bit foggy about all of this and what to think but amputation is not on the table. This Dr works with the program at U of Penn and knows Dr Couto as well. That made me feel a little better about things??!
  15. Hello, I just returned from the Oncology Vet Specialists and the Xrays indicate an early detection of osteo in her right leg at the lower joint ( ankle?) The recommendation is for radiation and Pamidronate IV drip ( 4 weeks radiation, IV drip every 3 weeks). Does anyone have any experience with this? The Dr felt it was early, she does not have any symptoms and the leg bones are still encasing the cancer in her leg (?) Pamidronate is suppose to strengthen the bone, provide pain relief, and it has been shown to help healthy bone grow back. Too good to be true? Thanks ahead of time for any thoughts. Nancy
  16. posted at the same time as above, hoping my question will be seen . thanks again
  17. Hello, I have a question. My GH was x-rayed because she did have swelling and pain and limping at the bony joint above her foot. (ankle, knee?? what is that part) They saw a questionable dark spot in the bone but the edges of the bone were very clean. She got better and it might have been a soft tissue injury. She now has no swelling, no pain, and NO limping but we did re- X ray and the vet thought it looked worse. Not as clean at the edges of the bone and a larger area was dark. So, can she have osteo with no symptoms, no limping and no discomfort or is it just brewing and we caught it early and she will develop a limp? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I am now staring at her walking like a crazy person! nancy
  18. second and third the benefits of coconut oil!!!
  19. Thank you for your response. I will find out about the sedation for future xrays. Bumping for any other feedback. Does Tramadol have side effects? She was restless and panting during the night and seemed to be shivering. She was on the bed between us with blankets on her. Thanks again for your thoughts
  20. Misha has slight swelling in her right leg at the joint above her foot. It is warm, hurts her if you press it. She is putting weight on it but limping. This started around Monday and we have been taking it easy until the appointment today. We went to the vet and they took xrays - they said she had to lie down on her side for xrays ( really?). All we could hear was a lot of scuffling and crying. I almost barged in to the xray room. Our vet is on vacation and this was the covering vet that we have never met before. She said the xrays looked good from a bone stand point. The bone looked good, the lines of the edge of the bone looked good and we are hoping for a soft tissue injury??! Misha came home on rymidol ( sp?) and Tramadol. They said she was shaking like a leaf and getting the xray was really difficult. Should I get more xrays? a second opinion? I was going to give the medicine and wait till next week when I can to see our regular vet. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks in advance, A very worried momma
  21. I have no scientific answer for you, but my space and sleep aggression dog is now the biggest lover, snuggler and bed hog there is. She is bomb proof when pushed (she takes up too much room in bed), touched and kissed at any time- bed, sofa, dog bed... It took more then one year I am sure, but now 6 years later, I can not remember the last time that happened. More time and patience. Keep up the good work.
  22. I used the tape and it often fell off by itself before I needed to take it off to replace it. I did not see a difference/ help by using the tape except maybe it provided a cover/ slight cushion on the corn. I have used coconut oil on the corn to keep it softened, and we always use a boot when we go out walking. We have had them hulled, just for them to come back fairly quickly. Oddly, lately the one she has, has gone away on its own after some time just with the above mentioned strategies. It is probably my own placebo affect but I swear that coconut oil, given to them in their food and on the corn has helped????That is my story and I am sticking with it! If you have better luck with something, please post it!!
