  1. Holy cow-doggies! Your poor boy has had enough - but he still looks so happy - what a love he must be . Hope this new approach does the trick
  2. Max is bothered a bit by small dogs, and especially small dogs that bark. Unfortunately his primary babysitter has acquired a dachshund who is pretty barky, and he gets anxious around her. He will settle down after a few days, but he is staying with them twice in November while we are away and I was wondering if Melatonin would help not feel so anxious around her. He is not at all aggressive - he really is scared of her! Kind of acts the way he does with thunderstorms - gets a bit shaky and panting. As he gets older (he is 12 and a half), he tends to fret a bit more than he used to (I love my little old man ) Otherwise they are perfect babysitters - they have looked after him for years, they have another grey girlie and they adore him! Hoping someone can share with me how melatonin works - how much to give - do you have to give it for a while in advance, like clomicalm,or does it work immediately? Does it have any negative side effects? I know I've taken it to help me sleep; does it make them tired? Can I give him the same stuff I use? Any advice and experience is most appreciated!

  7. Funny you ask... I am in LABOUR! Just killing time on the computer and trying not to think about it!. the dogs on the other hand are like, "are we going for a hike today?" ummmm... "no" sorry guys. Will let you know when the part greyhound is born eva woo hoo!! for both the good update on Bailey AND the baby-on-the-way news!! Will patiently (well, probably not!) wait for the news!!! (I admire you GT committment too -updating us while in labour - nicely done!)
  8. My boy is 12 and a half and is really doing very well! He has a few very minor things to deal with (is on metacam for arthritis and has trouble with the heat - and the hind end is a bit shaky!) But he is still very active; demands his two walks a day, eats like a piggie, play bows and "dances" for me several times a day and now that it's cooler, zoomies in the yard are making a reappearance! I know how very lucky I am and every day thank him for still being his wonderful self!
  9. Well that just makes my heart happy! Good girl,Darcy - you look as smug as you want! You deserve it!

  15. So glad to hear that Bailey is doing better; I really hope she'll be back to herself soon - but this!! This news above!! OMG - congrats you guys - how exciting is that??!!!! And how added stressful - sheesh, talk about rough! Hope you'll let us know how things turn out in a few weeks - and don't worry, as long as there's no tail, half greyhound would be fine! ;)
  16. Gosh, Eva - just seeing this; how very scary but so glad everything is working out! I hope everything continues on the upswing. The last time Max had any sedatives (not anaesthetic but something to relax him before getting stitches) he had a heck of a time coming out of it. Vet had to give a drug to reverse it, and still he was out of it for 24 hours. He is 12, too and has always been slow to come out of anaesthetic. has me worried about his next dental... Hugs to pretty Bailey - glad she is recovering!
  17. Oh my - that is *exactly* what Max did a few years ago - my boy now goes nekkid unless going for a walk, or if at someplace besides home, he has a breakaway collar that he wears(which I cannot recall the manufacturer of - RobinW on here has one as well; they do work awesome!). Pretty much anything besides a breakaway can get caught. I remember our husky-girl we had before Max got her regular flat collar caught on the tines of the bottom of the dishwasher rack (she was the pre-wash rinse cycle! ) and pulled the whole rack, fully loaded across the kitchen, completely freaked out, stuff smashing all around her - gawd, what an ordeal that was. I had to practically sit on her to hold her still enough so someone else could unhook her! I am so glad everything turned out okay - it is a terrifying couple of minutes! So, yes, nekkid or breakaway unless on a leash is the rule in our house...

    Kiowa Braden

Rest in peace, precious Braden. I hope the love you felt in the last days of your life erased the days prior. Surely such an outpouring from around the continents must have found it's way into your heart. Blessings to those who cared for and who will continue to care for the others and all that follow. You are special people...
  19. I have no experience but I am thinking of you and Charlie and Lynn, hoping for the best possible outcome... :goodluck
  20. I'm so sorry you are facing this - but you will beat it! You and Charlie together! Sending healing thoughts and strength to you all...
  21. So very sorry...and so aware of how inadequate those words are. But they come from the heart. I'll think of you and Bijou as you travel this last stretch of road together...
