  1. One of the saddest things I have ever read.I cannot begin to imagine the grief and horror their mom must be feeling. Lisa, please accept my sincerest condolences on your loss. I hope that one day the memories of the happy times you had together will replace the memory of how you lost them... :f_pink
  2. I am sorry to hear your Vixen is ill - I will keep her in my thoughts...
  3. Jan - I don't know what to say, I have just seen this. What a horrible shock for you. A hound could not have known more love in her life than Bailey. Hugs to you, Dave and Ben
  4. I am just seeing this now! I am so sorry to hear about Hobbes' diagnosis; I hope you have many days of hugs, snuggles and greyhound junk food. And I really hope his leg is feeling better. Hugs to all of you and white light being sent to Hobbes...
  5. I contemplated taking one of his "look-at-the-pretty-colours" stoned face but thought that was a bit too much for the poor boy....(but it *was* a very good stoned face!) And unfortunately, they removed his bandage before we left. They put red vet wrap around his IV site, and whilst waiting for him to wake up, one of the techs must have been bored; she cut snowflakes out of white vet wrap to stick on it The vet was quite perplexed until he noticed his red collar with white snowflakes on it... But a pic when he is back to his goofy self will follow! He has had some wet food, with added water (he's not much for drinking on his own) and is walking about on his own (with close supervision aka; helicopter mom!). I'm going to post a separate thread about a course of treatment the vet suggested. Basically a maintenance dose of doxy for the full year until his next dental. I brush every day and the crowns and to his gum line were all good. But the disease progresses under the gum line and he is very close to losing all of his teeth (his gums have recessed to within a millimetre or two of the gumline).
  6. Max has had (and has now) a couple of these. One we took off after it was just sitting there for a couple of years because it suddenly started to grow extra wart-looking lumps on it (it was benign) He has another covered by hair that just appeared probably a couple of years ago and hasn't changed one bit. There is another black one (same colour as skin in that location, no hair) that occasionally pops with some bloody discharge, shrinks away and then grows back again. So hopefully whatever is sprouting on the Phener-weiner-beaner is innocent and non-worrisome! Fingers crossed...
  7. We are home, safe and sound!! The boy is snoozing on his bed, he has had a bit of pee (that was on his bed in the car, but oh well!) and a poop, so we're on the road to recovery. Not interested in water yet, but soon I am sure. Thanks all, for your good wishes and thoughts. I know they always help!
  8. He's awake! And no extractions!! Thank you for good thoughts - ,whew\.
  9. They have wireless here in the clinic! They are putting him under now, fingers crossed for no more extractions...
  10. we are so fortunate to have a canine dental specialist in the area. He has looked after Max since we got him (and he had to have 2 root canals!! ). It's such a great set up; they just have one patient at a time, the whole staff just looks after Max while he's there, I stay the whole time and take him home within a couple of hours. Dental at 8:30, we should be home by 2. Hopefully with all the teeth we went with, all nice and shiny! Max just takes a wee bit longer to wake up than normal, so it always makes his anxious mom worry a bit. But they watch him constantly, so he is in good hands! Thanks so much for thinking of my boy> I'll post his groggy little face when we return...
  11. And I would really, truly appreciate any good wishes you can send my baby boy, Max. At 11 and a half, he is in good health according to his lab work and only has 13 or so teeth left, so the dental shouldn't take long. But still, he is the light of my life and any time these senior babies have to go under is worriesome. So, if you could spare just a week bit of white light tomorrow morning (Tuesday), we would appreciate it greytly!

    Gunda

I was so shocked to see Gunda's name here - shocked and so sad. She has been one of my favourites, with such a big personality. I just loved her spunk and spirit. She will be so missed... :f_pink

  19. I am so sorry Lou had to leave. Run free,
  20. I can't believe it's been a year....such a special boy, missed so much.
  21. I am not sure exactly why it is so bad, but this is from the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association; http://www.ovma.org/pet_owners/pet_health/...s_for_pets.html It's also listed on the ASPCA website under their poison control section. I think the danger to pets is a fairly recent discovery; I only heard about it in the past couple of years (or less) - maybe why a vet thought it was okay?
  22. Max has really bad teeth, and is down to 13 teeth. He has a dental coming up and I have to basically decide if we take the remaining teeth out to avoid future dentals (he is 11) or keep them and try everything possible to keep them. To this end, I was looking at buying Biotene to help him out, after reading about it here on GT. But when I went to buy it, I saw that it had xylitol in it - which I thought was a huge no-no for dogs!!?? Sooo, is there another type of Biotene out there that doesn't have Xylitol? I don't think I want to use it, if it does have xylitol in it...
  23. How did I miss this?? No, no, no - not the Flashman! One of my first GT crushes, one of the sweetest, most adorable boys out there. This is so very wrong. Patti, I am just so sorry. I will miss him so... :f_red :grouphug
  24. I was holding my breath reading these updates!! I am so glad Hobbes is home and recovering - my goodness, dentals should not be that rough! I hope the recovery continues uneventfully! Hobbes
