    Hardday

Thank you for sharing a few of your memories of your precious boy (I hope we hear more!)and I'm sorry he had to leave - my condolences on your lost... :f_white
  4. Oh gosh, Janet - I'm so sorry this is back for Jake (or sounds like it at least!) I hope that the doxy does the trick again for him - it is so worrisome when they get out of whack, and there isn't a obvious answer. Hugs to you and Jake; it's so frustrating, I know...
  5. Doing what's right is so often not what's easy...you'll do right by your boy, because it's with love. That's what matters. I am so sorry you are being faced with these decisions; treasure every minutes with your precious little man. You'll be in my thoughts... :grouphug
  6. Oh crap - I am so sorry to hear this. I hope you can find a mix of meds to keep your boy pain free...
  7. Great news! Hope he (and his momma!) continues to be happy!
  8. :nod Oh, laws yes - he is a veritable fountain. The whole reason his main nickname is "Sir Snotsalot"
  9. Just a little follow up to my post on Max' extreme panting/ lethargy. He went to the chiro last Tuesday and she could find nothing amiss ("remarkably good shape for 12 year old dog of any breed!") We went to the vet this morning, with urine sample and to get blood work. Everything came back perfect, again "remarkably good shape for a 12 year old!!" So, that is all good - he is very healthy! And he has been much better with the cooler temps of the past week. But that does narrow what could be wrong, and is making laryngeal paralysis more and more likely (not that I'm truly surprised). The last thing to try is metacam for a couple of days, and see if there is pain from arthritis that could be helped (and might ease the hind end weakness/shaking). We're also going to try some acupuncture, specifically focussing on LP. Thanks for your good thoughts and comments - I'll follow up on how the metacam/acupuncture goes and if it helps or not. My little man is man is doing better with cooler temps, so hopefully it will be a temperate summer! From Max - "Thanks, GTers!"
  10. I've noticed that Max's tongue does the same thing when he roos; no pics, so far but maybe I'll try next time the phone rings (that's the only thing that sets him off rooing!)
  11. We had an appointment with his chiro yesterday and the good news is that, according to her, he is in amazingly good shape for a 12 year old! So that was good and it made me happy. She did just a couple of small adjustments, which she said he likely didn't even notice. So - on positive side, he is not in any pain in his joints. But it does make the diagnosis of laryngeal paralysis more likely, unfortunately. He is going to see the vet Saturday, just for a blood draw and take in his urine sample, to rule out anything else. We did get the name of a vet in the area who does acupuncture, so we may give that a try. In the meantime, although still panting way too much, he is perkier - eating better again, more chipper on his walks, etc. Hi is still sleeping lots more than ever before and I guess just showing his age. Man, seeing them get old really sucks... Thanks for checking on my boy. Here is a pic, for your viewing pleasure! :P
  12. Hope it's just a sprain that will healup quickly!
  13. Yeah, I sure hope it's just heat + age combined. Hope the allergies clear up for Echo! Thanks Robin - am really hoping it's just the weather, but worriesome that he seems so lethargic, and it came on rather suddenly...maybe it's because I've been away, too. He's not a mopey dog but maybe he is missing me a bit, too...
  14. Yes, i do recall reading about that (probably here on GT, I'm sure!) I have been wondering about it; we've started blocking him out from the basement when we aren't home. The lethargy is what is worrying me a bit more; I think I'll try giving him some metacam when I get home (He has always tolerated it well), see if it helps, if it is pain... I have to say, this is kind of what I amhoping for -it is just him gett older (but it seemed to happen so fast!) and that it is just the heat... Tell Betsy to stay cool! Thanks for the good wishes and replies. I forgot to say that we are going to his chiron on Tuesday; hopefully that will help too!
  15. Max turned 12 the end of April, and has always been very healthy and active. It got really hot, really fast in May, and Max seemed to be bothered by the heat, seemed to get a little lethargic and sleeping more, panting quite a lot. He had his vet check up towards the end of May and all seemed well, but I do still have to take in his urine sample and get a blood draw done. It has cooled off a bit the past week or so, butt Max hasn't perked back up. Still panting a lot, sleeping all the time. I'll take him in to vet next week, but I'm don't know what to think, about what might be wrong. He is eating well, going to the bathroom as normal, nothing has changed there, no weight change, fur is still normal - I don't know what could be going on. Could he be in pain? He does seem to have some stiffness when he gets up from bed, and has some hind end weakness - I've noticed that he seems to be stumbling more often. His panting is a bit raspy - could it be larangyal paralysis? Plus, I've been away all week, and home tomoroww, so trying not to panic and get worried too much. An I realize it could be just old age, but am a bit worried it could be more... So, any wee positive thoughts you could spare, for it being just my precious boy showing his age would be appreciated. He is the love of my life, I am so scared of him being ill, and being away from home right now, I've been worrying, so thanks for listening to my concerns over something that will probably (hopefully, please doG) be nothing major...
  16. Gack!! How did I miss this??!!! Look at that adorable girl - and those white toesies are just toooooo cute! I'm glad to hear (in this and your other post) that Miss Pinky Barker is settling in so well. Congratulations to the newest addition to the family - she has landed in clover! And to me, Miss Pinky Barker should be the leader of a 50's bad-girl gang, a la the Pink Ladies from Grease! :lol
  17. Oh look at that beautiful smile! Clearly a life well-loved is behind those eyes. Blessings to her and you...run fast & have fun, pretty girl! You've earned your rest... :f_pink

    Guilt And Loss

If it was an easy decision, it wouldn't hurt so much... But it was the right one. You are right, your girl trusted you with everything and we are able to make that final decision for them, as awful as it is to make. Her life was well-lived, well-loved with you - and her passing was with you too, also full of love. You will cry lots, and it will help a little. some days you'll feel better and smile a little at some of the memories, and then some days, there will be tears again. And that's all okay - you have lost part of yourself and it's okay to grieve for the huge part that is missing from your life. I just wanted to let you know it's okay to grieve, and to doubt yourself and to wonder...it's because you love her. But it was the right thing, the right time. When you can, we'd love to see some pics of your precious girl...
  21. This story just amazes me. Manny and all of his family have been in my thoughts since I read about this. I am in awe of the strength and courage of all. Continued healing thoughts...
