  1. So glad Elsie is home, safe and sound! Fingers crossed for negative biopsy results now!
  2. Good clotty-type, thoughts being sent! Max always bleeds a lot from his dentals, too (and will like lose the rest of his teeth at his next dental the end of August - he'll ask Hobbes for gumming tips!) Hope to hear the good "he's home!" news soon...
  3. How is Bailey doing, Jan? Hope she has stopped throwing up and is back to the chow hound you know and love!
  4. How are things, Jan? Keeping you guys in my thoughts
  5. Yay, Jake! so nice when it's just a check-up, isn't it!
  6. Oh no, Jan!! healing thoughts being sent for Bailey; it's so scary when our babies are sick...what did the vet give for treatment?
  7. The rest of the nails are very sturdy, no flakiness or brittleness, so hopefully it is indeed a tear off. I guess we'll just wait and see how the healing goes!
  8. It appears to be the whole thing, just completely detached. There is kind of a knubby stump at the end of his toe but I don't think that is the quik Hmm, maybe I should try to take pics...
  9. Last Tuesday, Max was running around in the yard with DH, playing fetch (he's better than a retriever!). When they were done, he laid in the grass for a bit and cooled off - maybe 10 minutes or so. He then came into the house with us, and once he was in, I noticed a nice, bloody trail of footsteps into the house! He had apparently torn off a toe nail and hadn't made a peep ! It would not stop bleeding, so took him to the vet for half a jar of stypic powder and a club-foot wrap. It looked like a clean tear. He had appt for annual next day; vet took off wrap, all looked well. bloodwork came back fine - platlets a bit low but not abnormal for a grey, red blood cells good. The toe has continued to bother him a bit and he would favour it off and on. Would also keep bleeding a bit, when ever he would hit it (which, being a bit of a klutz, is kind of often), but basically progressing okay, I guess. I found the nail today - it appears to have just fallen off, not been torn off as I had thought and is entirely intect. I know greys can get (are prone to?) SLO - is that was this is? It has never happened before and nothing else is wrong (that I can tell). I read Dr. Stacks info on SLO and I don't think the toe amputation is necessary for a definative diagnosis :eek - should I just assume it is SLO and follow her recommended treatment? Should I wait and see if it happens again and then assume it is SLO? Is there anything else that could tell if it is SLO? What if it is SLO and we do not do anything? I wouldn't be questioning if I had found the nail, but it does make me wonder... Thanks for any feedback.

  20. Every bit of good thoughts and white light being sent from Canada!
  21. Not sure what it might be Gail - could be a spider bite or such? What is the cream - for inflammation, itch, antibiotic? Could he have gotten a thorn or something in there? They can get seasonal allergies too and maybe it's his feet that itch...good luck, hope it gets better
  22. A friends 13 year old girl has been struggling for almost a month now, not eating, diarrhea, sometimes vomitting. She has lost a lot of weight (down to 21 kg) - she was always tiny but much more so now. She has been in ICU for almost a week at vet hospital for tests, IV fluids, feeding. They were worried cancer but it came back clear (a good thing!) but diagnosed IBD. Her family is bringing her home tonight; her mom is not GT member (but may become one now!) so I thought I'd see if there were any suggestions/ideas as to what she can expect over the next few days. Tally is very weak and shaky but has been eating on her own at the vet college - boiled hamburg/ground turkey & rice. Not sure what meds she is coming home on - she was on flagyl, a pepcid type of medication and I cannot recall what else, maybe an appetite stimulant. She was very healthy up this point, really not issues so thankfully nothing else to deal with. But she is having a pretty rough go right now. So any good, healing thoughts for the girl would be most appreciated, along with any of your thoughts!
