  1. The hemanioma surgery was 85,biopsy 125, painmeds and antibiotics 25. No office chg if having surgery. Total bill385 Aspca insurance 100 deductable paid 200 Got lucky. I pay for basic illness policy $30month
  2. I have a 9yo for 4 years. He gets a dental every year. He has badly stained teeth and advance periodontal. He went in for a hemangioma removal so we slipped in a dental while he was out. The dental was 50.00 and the anesthia was 125.00. No extractions. He was more out of it this time and poop was pudding for 2 weeks since the antibiotics. Yougert, pumpkin, probiotic have not helped.
  3. bigger the better,if you have the space. Our group will loan a crate for a month to see if you really need it. If a dog was fostered he may not have been crated even though he was supposed to be. We prefer the hard plastic kennels. Easy to clean, won't rust and dogs feel comfortable with the privacy. You can always throw a cover over open open wire cage. Watch collars and tags getting caught on wires. Some take them off dogs when caged.
  4. When my Dalmatian was spayed, I asked if she required antibiotics. He said no, just Beano! She could clear a room awake or sleeping.
  5. My new foster gave out the SOD while harnessed during lesson one on the stairs. He watched the others up and down all day...........until I fried up some Nathan"s dogs with spicy mustard and retreated up to my office. I was up in 2 minutes and the rest is now old hat
  6. My 9yo red brindle raced as USS FIRESTORM I think that was a ship in Star Wars? He was named STORMY. My black boys were Bugsy,Scout,Aaron and Flash. I always wanted to name a dog Dorian Grey!
  7. About 1 day lol. He got out of the car, watered everything in the yard, walked up 5 steps went to the LR and walked right up on the couch and smiled. Tried to get him to sleep in a kennel ( fostering guidelines) I ended up sleeping on the floor with him for several nights. After 3 weeks he has learned the 14 steps to the bedrooms and the rest will be easy going for his new adoption home, soon.
  8. peroxide diluted on terry towel
  9. I walk ( but also have a fenced yard) 2 greys, standard poodle and a Dal/dane mix all at once 2X a day. They either walk well or I kick butt and take names for Santa Claus
  10. My standard poodle manages to eat a magazine a week. Great fiber and technicolr confetti poop from the slick pages
  11. Greyhounds do make excellent apt pets. If you can find the place that will take a 65-75 pound dog.You walk/run every day. That's a start. Yes the dog will need min 3 potty brakes a day....EVEN in blinding rain and 2 feet snow. I think it mabe a bit soon to get a dog without your housing/work stabilized.
  12. Can't be worse than 1/2 pizza INCLUDING the box! 3 days of yellow squirts. At least a bunny would be more "natural". RIP Bun-Bun
  13. We have fruit rats because of the orange ,lemon and grapefruit trees in the yard. I keep DECON pellets under the washer and dryer in garage. It works in a few days but the dead smell in the walls will go away in time. They usually leave the property in search of water, anyway. The house is raised off theground so I place the poison under the house also. Dogs can not get under house.
  14. speaking of photos... sorry to side-rail the subject. My new foster had the big D for tooooo many days. After a course of deworm, slowly changing foods nothing worked. Allergy testing proved everything is bad to eat! except Kangaroo and fish. After weeks of antibiotics and some oops in the house, the foster coordinator asked me to describe the output. I shot her a pic and she asked me never to do that again! So, he remains on "Honest Kitchen" for life.
  15. invisible fence will not work with sight hounds. A fast moving dog chasing a stray cat, bunny, bird or other dogs on a walk can run through the field of shock and then be afraid to return,if they do. I have a cyress stockcade fence at 6ft. Just as important is the gate locking system. I have self-closing latches basically for pool security, but I also have a line of sight to each gate when sending the guys out. Won't do any good to have a gate out of sight where a meter reader fails your system or a curious school kid wants to enter your yard.
  16. No harm unless lots of kitty litter consumed. This won't be the last! My guys think the litter box is their personal vending machine
  17. You are what you eat! All my dogs eat Proplan shreaded Chic and each outpoot id different. I wish they all had the system of my Standard Poodle. 3 times a day they bounce off the landing. I could take up golf.
  18. Just took my new foster in for prelimiary bloodwork for neutering and dental. His rate was 60. Vet was amazed at the calmness being just picked up from the farm. The vet said he would be 40 at home at peace! The google says average rate is 60-100
  19. Researching my new foster boy. His mama only had 1 litter states 4 puppies. What's up with my dog tat is 79E Would the E not say at least 5 pups.
  20. Yes forget the nice warm bath in the tub. Nobody told me about that. 85 pounds of soapey slippery passed out dog is scarey. Shoot I thought he had a stroke
  21. Borrow a dog that will do stairs. A harness and hot dog treats on each step should work. Hold the dog going down, some think jumping a flight is the way to go,but a broken leg is in the making.
  22. After 2 months of mush to pick up and most of the time it was straw and cover and walk away fast. The group had blood test for food allergy. No lamb, beef chicken, turkey, venison, milk, rabbit, wheat.and more. He could have was potato, barley liver,CORN! fish and Kangaroo!! The foster coordinator brought by a couple boxes of Honest Kitchen (thrive). After the first 3 days I jumped for joy. I could take up golf with the output. it will be a hard sell to place him with an expensive food bill. The 10# box (you need to reconstitute it) makes 40 pounds. 80 pound skinny boy went through 1 box in 2 weeks. I see the product on line for 60.00/box. As long as the adoptee knows going in and has a yard,no problem IF he can put weight on.
