  1. The group in our area got the call from a demo team that was leveling a trailer that a person died in. The neighbors were throwing food over to an old grey living under the house. It took 4 weeks of raw meat, antibiotics, love and warm baths to get the 11 yo into a recognizable animal. ALL the teeth have been pulled now and a kind soul has stepped up to continue care. The before photos made me ill. Senior blood workup is always in order.....then the hard work begins.
  2. Know the feeling well. I can't get the bottom rows of french door windows washed. I know that's where Kerry Berry and Lord Duncan pressed their black wet noses waiting for someone to come home.
  3. I tried putting a coffee mug upside down in the middle of the dish. Some have suggested a bundt pan (metal angel food baking pan). Nada. I just wet the smaller kibble (Natural Balance:Venison/Sweet Potato) so it slides down better.
  4. Recheck that dosage for Zanax. I'm 215# and take 0.25 mg and sometimes 1/2 of that. I use 5mg melatonin for the greys and fireworks. 1 hour before the big bang at 9pm at the waterfront, then another tab at 11pm so we all can get some sleep while the pops go all night in the hood
  5. Not so much with the Greys..The Herring/sweet potato smelled bad going in and picking up. My vet suugests the Dalmatian take Beeno. She cleared the hospital during her spade.
  6. Love those black greyhounds! None of mine ever had a shedding problem. Love the shiney coat. My neighbor is from New Zealand, she calls greyhounds dishlickers!Good luck on your houndies. Remember there is always more the better
  7. My son was living in Palm Springs with a 2,000 mutt won on charity auction for an animal shelter and a purebred Affenpinscher. The new addition peed all over the house and a call was placed to C. M. For 500.00 the training advise was for my son to pee in all four corners of the yard and the dog would get the idea. Crap, it worked!
  8. I chalk it up to greyhounds all belong to the Psychic network. They pick up on the strangest things. Keep a short lead.
  9. It's going to give some added fiber!Poodle cleans up what the squirrels leave behind. Advice: Don't leave a 10# bag on the kitchen table with 2 surfers and a poo. It was a grand taffy pulling contest
  10. I have come across (new to me) Tri-Force squeeze-on for flee, tick & mosuito.Contains a new "poison" Nylar(cyphenothrin). Frontline plus and Advantage not working. Adams spray is getting costly to spay all the dogs every trip out. Anyone use this product?
  11. Our first foster did zoomies around the yard on his first night out. When he spotted a statue at the end...in he went...sank to the bottom and then popped up and swam to the step.It was Feb and water was 58 degrees. I would go in IF I had to. I never leave dogs alone around the pool.Treat them like children
  12. After fostering for just 2 short months Ryan is going to his new home today. He spent 3 years a our local vet college. Lots of scars.Too many fights without muzzles and mixed breeds all bunched in a turnout pen. The new Daddy has a greyhound and lost one this year. Sounds like a good fit. Happy trails and tails(oops ,you don't have your tail, lost in your survival to a pit mix. Want to see you again especially with a grey face!
  13. Usually the boys eat in different rooms. Today the foster pushes the kitchen door open and gets too close to the still feeding guy. My neighbors heard the dogs and ME through 2 walls.I found a few scratches, but after everyone takes a nap,I see the puddle of blood. Under the collar looks like a puncture and a trail of blood.I listerined, and chlorhexidrined. After 4 hours not a lot of clotting happening.I will sleep on the floor and keep pressure if that's needed. I have a whole container of Keflex 500 but I think a trip to vet in the am is in the plan. It can happen in the blink of an eye. I am now rethinking the small children feeding our dogs treats at M&G.
  14. Standard Poodle rules the house. She has taught every foster grey how to bark at the door. She also gets the treats from bank tellers, fedx guys and meter readers!
  15. It's good to take a friend with you. I lost my heart springer at Thankssgiving. He was 16. Then on New Year's Eve my Dalmatian had a stroke during a houseful of 50 people. Dr next day she could never walk again. Well at 15 we knew best. Flowers came from the vet and said your babies are ready for pickup. I sent someone else. Now my Grey refuses to go into room number 3. He must be feeling me all the way down the leash. My mantle is runnning out of space.
  16. Hate to say it ,but back to the C R A T E,if not medical
  17. Keep your guard up with all new dogs. I learn from the "oldies" at M&G. A new brodie came aboard, handler was warned of small animal cautions. Well, handler was chatting up a storm when a prized Peek happens by to close. Ms Jewel had enough leash to eat a good mouthfull of hair. She was so proud and looked like she sported a mustach! It is amazing to see the speed and they are called sight hounds for a reason
  18. Wikipedia has declared the Tampa Bay area the lightning capitol of N. America. One dog who raced here at Derby heads to the closet and shakes until it's over even on melatonin. The other guy wants to go run in the rain. Our huge firework displays on the waterfront is just as bad but it's predictable and arrangements for cuddling can be made. Our do it yourself neighbors managed to take 2 weeks hammering down a new roof.sheer misery. Now they are doing siding!Think it's time to sail to Key West.
  19. Looking for a "Grey " vet in Pinellas. I take non-greys to Skyway for about 12 yrs. Have been going to Sunset Pt(for Greys), Dr Conrad, but it;s a long ride.Last quote on dentals 400 if no issues
  20. Her pain ended and now your's starts. Take care of yourself. Few of us are lucky to enjoy 10 years together.
  21. New foster for 3rd day. Got lucky, perfect boy,so far. Group would like him crated but He has tasted freedom. He lived at a local vet tech school for 3 yrs.A new employee was grey savy and said enough. Our group took him on. He has the prettiest teeth! Had lots of practise time:)
  22. I left for 15 min to p/u lunch. The standard poodle went through a closed br window after the mailman. Luckily she did not get a scratch. The grey's bed under thar window was coverd in glass. He never went near it. Home Depot has metal grills that can cover the screen area of a storm door...Also get a good or double up that latch.Smarty pants learned how to operate the flipper style door handles.
  23. Time and the bottle! Routine and time will help,or you may hit the bottle. M&G are stressfull. Electric doors popping open, children screaming, roar of scared dogs back in the grooming closet. My spook still needs a harness at M&G after a year.......But today at Parade of Greys HE made me proud. Many that knew him before thought he was a new foster. We maybe had 100+ dogs in a park with 72 degree weather,at last. Oh, and not one fight broke out.
  24. Be careful for what you wish. My shy boy took a year before he had his coming out party. And I don't mean he is a Gayhound! He is velcrow, now. I have a 72 pound hairy growth on my hip all day long.....and I love it.
