  1. Here in West Coast Florida we spray legs and feet when going in parks or shell/sand alleyways. Most of the year we are on Comfortis but once in a while Advantix comes out if ticks pop up
  2. In your dirty laundry. Hope you hear them in the dryer! Been there ,done it
  3. I do, I do. Well Kevin and I turn 60 in December. lol, Dr suggests limiting beer at night. No help here, I'd check UTI
  4. Well I didn't dodge that bullet this week . My foster thought that dropped sock from the laundry was HIS. After $500.00 and counting most of an ear will be saved on my senior boy. Leather treats have not been here for years, when they get( soggy and GOOD)they can lodge in the throat and be a real scare.
  5. Put the toysm away! My last foster , who returned to the kennels today (sad Day)could not share toys bones, sox, or anything he took ownership. My longest foster now for 7 months did not work out. He ripped the ear on my Dalmatian several months ago and the attack for no reason to the neck was uncalled for. He then punctured my hand while grabbing an ice cube. He was always kenneled at night and days if we left for errands. The last straw was this week when he started a fight with my senior grey and bit a large chunk out the ear. He was a Velcro boy to top it off and showed teeth if any of the others needed my attention. It was a sad ride back to the kennels where he had stayed for over a year due to "EXUBERANCE" is how he was labeled. I fear if the right person won't take him on he may be destroyed. I'm not a newbie after 20 fosters by now, but this one was my Waterloo. So odd he never messed with my female Standard Poodle
  6. Stormy went first thing and His vet opened up gauze and gagged. He cleaned up and redressed and vet wrapped and asked us to come back Fri at 7 for the surgeon to clean up rip and have teeth done at the same time. I feel bad that the foster will be going back to kennel life after having him 7 months. He is just 4 and beautiful but I know he never raced and lived in kennel life for 1 year and now goes back. Trying not to put human emotions on the picture. He ripped the ears on my Dalmatian and now chewed a chunk off my Stormy's ear. He has been foster number 18. Yes, I am gun shy now.
  7. My 10yo was having a nice birthday party until the foster got jealous over toys and attacked the old guy. He bit dine size off the tip of the ear and I had a blood bath. I pressed with towels and when he shook his head, everything broke loose so off to the ER. Dr remembers him from another time stitches were needed on a late Sunday from another foster bite. Records showed he did not do well on gas so she wants to give propafal and repair jagged laceration. I did not feel good about being there,so she cleaned, gave ampicillin and Buprenex for pain and I went home to see our Dr in AM. He has not laid down for 4 hours and is hyper, drooling and can't get comfortable. It's going to be a long night
  8. I would suggest muzzle, before you mess with it
  9. All depends on your dog's temperment. My 10 yo has not changed much in the 6 years I've had him He was a 3 time bounce due to his quirkiness. I use the WWW harness when off my property. A Harley coming across the parking lot at Petco or a SUV hitting a man-hole cover will send him 6 feet into the air . We have 11 school buses pass my house and you think by now! A 1/12" martingale is the usual attire around the house. Training is not the issue with him. Thankfully his goofiness has never rubbed off on the 2 dozen fosters through here.
  10. can you X pen the bush and sit by with a water gun! I would change out the plant
  11. Are you going to track them from bed to bed! Seriously my niece adopted a 4yo in Charleston and just moved to Atlanta and uses a tracking collar now.
  12. We have done well on the "green Bag" I checked my current 30# bag from Walmart 27.99 The code IS listed and the exp date matches recall. My UPC code is different ,however. I called the hot line and left inquiry.
  13. I like that "manuka MONEY" just keep it dry, very short walks on lead and give it couple weeks if not bleeding a lot
  14. The cone of shame in case a chewer won't leave his boo boo alone. Stop Quick for the nail rips or close trims
  15. I was told to slip a piece of paper under the nails while the dog is standing, if paper hangs up ,time to trim. Stormy clicks even after trim at Petco every 6weeks and 3 walks a day on concrete sidewalks
  16. I use Adams Flea and Tick Mist (Blue Bottle) Spray feet, legs and underbelly before walks. They are not fond of the treatment but we do create a smelly fog as a pack of 4 on walks in an overpopulated neighborhood of dogs, cats possums and coons. There are 17 dogs on my block alone!
  17. Welcome to the cult. I have volunteered for a rescue group in the Tampa area for 5 years. I recommend reading up on the breed and coming to Meet & Greets to get first hand experience You will see a wide range of personalities. All of our foster dogs live in homes and their personality is observed for weeks or months during their acclamation to pet life. Some dogs are ok being any "only dog" Your apt complex will be verified for breed and weight restrictions. As a whole Greyhounds are quiet BUT they are still dogs. My dog has been owning me for over 4 years and at 9, he has never been on furniture. As far as running, Greyhounds are sprinters and do their run/job in a few MINUTES and it's down for a nap. Be extremely careful with the heat in Florida. Running on pavement can burn feet quickly. Knowing of the leash laws in major cities, jogging a leashed dog on a trail can be a problem for fast moving roller blad es and bikers. If you want a companion for walking a tree lined street or a romp through a city park, go for it .if you want a ball chasing, frizbee jumper,or a open Jeep wing man, maybe a Lab or Pointer would be a better choice.
  18. I did not pick my 1st grey. You don't always get the dog you want, you get the dog you need. Never thought my first would be a 4time bounce, challenges, yes but I could never live without him after 7 months of fostering.
  19. Just picked up a 30# green bag Iams, nothing about phosphorus on label. It has been a miracle food for my loose boys.
  20. Welcome to the cult, crazy lady. I see a collection of collars, NOT shoes in your future. Your life we never be the same in a good way. You have already violated Greytalk NO PICTURES,,, Ha Ha Welcome aboard ,it's a fun journey
  21. Hello JJ, your cousin Stormy had a round swollen bump near a nipple that got very large and blood filled quickly. Vet gave antibiotic for 10 days to "dry it up" but he kept chewing it even wearing the cone of shame. We went for surgery to remove and did dental at same time. Test came back ok ,can't recall the general name given Histo sounds righThe wound was about dine size and healed quickly after he chewed out stitches . With his 2nd round of antibiotics his poop was soup for 3-4 weeks until I switched everybody to the Iams green bag ( miracle food) Well wishes for that handsome guy Uncle Buddy
  22. Our board has reviewed and approved an adoption application for an apartment on 3rd floor with unscreened balcony. This can be a year round issue in Florida with fantastic weather. The open-backed concrete stairs to the unit were a challenge even for a young dog. I have heart burn thinking a dog could jump over railing, curious with birds or dog walkers below. Am I overthinking this?
  23. Yup, Walmart 31.88 for 30# bag. same as Iams BUT label states origin of components: USA or IMPORTED (do you trust Walmart not to throw in a little China)
  24. I just rec'd my www harness from 2 hounds. Stormy has 30"chest so I ordered the LARGE. plenty of adjustment for a little bigger chest. XL would give a whole lot more strap length to deal with. This is my 2nd, the martingale loop frays after 3 years of daily wearing love the soft velvet stap under the arms.( only on for leash walking-don't need caught-ups in yard shrubbery) This has brought calm to me and my spooky boy. We get in trouble ,I pick up like a suitcase and go
