  1. I have ASPCA Pet Insurance. (9yo , 6yo and 5yo ) 250 deductible and 80% payout 5000 annual coverage $168.00 /mo. Healthy Paws quote today is $150/mo BUT reduced the 9yo to 60% and 500 deductable
  2. I had a Russian Blue cat that was low thyroid. At 22, I did not want to put her through all kinds of stuff. My vet said I could never fill her fast enough . She was a big cat but 3-4 cans of food plus kibble would not hold her overnight. She held on to 26yo. My 15yo Stand Poo is low tyroid also and she is eating like no tomorrow. She has lost weight and drinks water all day. Waiting on tests to come back
  3. With the added stress of workers in the house I would be hauling off to LaQuinta and pass the bill to landlord.
  4. My foster since Sept 2017 finally got a clear 2 weeks ago. Vet is continuing Advantage Multi, 5 doses of Panacur and 2 .1 ml ivermectin. We repeat in 2 weeks then fecal test. He tested 3 mo ago negative but had relapse. This is a 5yo male from Derby . I was concerned my 9yo was getting infected but tested negative. I figured he was given too many rich treats at a M&G at an RV show.
  5. Going on 8 months with positive fecal for hooks. Protocol has been Advantage Multi, 5 days for panacur on food 2nd day is 2ml liquid Ivermectin. Repeat every 2 weeks then test in 1 month. Testing this week shows 1 sickly egg in slide.
  6. Don't feed for a day or 2 ( yes) they won't starve while the belly calms down.
  7. You know other people with greyhounds Borrow a pet for his company for awhile. They are social and have lived with a pack all their lives. Toss the crate. Do not lock him in a room!
  8. I have seen people drag food bags back to pet stores during M&G.
  9. Looks like I'm going to the same vet, with that protocol for hooks. My latest foster since Sept has 3 rounds of the protocol. He tested fine and 2 months later he is back to 4+. My other 3 have not been affected. This last foster is Derby Lane and not part of the prison folks. The kennel turnout pens are cleaned and picked up but I never heard of any "treating" sand . The group I work with will not adopt a dog out without all tests cleared. T he hooks can stay dormant in the gut for months .
  10. My bad. looking at the pre-measured bags, it IS panacur. Last panacur few years was a milky liquid that was a mess to get down the throat. I do own 2 greys and a standard poodle who all have been solid poopers,so far.
  11. picked up new 4 1/2 yo male from Derby as a foster. September 2017 Was given a "hook:" deworming . Went to vetting within 2 weeks. Dental, neuter blood work... the works. After the food change soopy poop started. Fecal showed 4+ hooks. 1.2 ml Ivermectin, Advantage Multi topical and 5 days of Drontal powder on food. Repeat after 2 weeks. Still pos for hooks. Start another round and poop looking firmer. 3rd month still pos and 1 more round but following month test shows clear. Next month test shows clear. So after 5 months poop runny again and test is 5+. Group has 3 fosters in same shape. I know this is costing the rescue group a bunch of money and holding up adopters who are very patient. UF Vets are calling this a drug resistant hookworm infestation and looking into new drugs.
  12. I am on my 3rd go around with my foster. After vetting in October ,fecal came back 5+ . Went home with 5 measured baggies of Panacur powder for day 1 with topical Advantage Multi. Day 2 gets a baggy of panacur on his breakfast and 3ml of liquid Ivermectin. Day 3,4,5 each get a baggy of Panacur. This is repeated in 2 weeks then a fecal check. We have done this routine 3 times mow and got the fecals to 1+.Our vet has been consulting University of Fla and hooks are just resistant to drugs.
  13. wow that sure looks like ring worm to me. I had one on my arm for a month or more
  14. Our Standard Poodle is in love with anything paper. Over a few hours she ate the better part of Southern Living Mag. I guess she thought the turkey dinner on the cover was tasty, She pooed confetti all over the neighborhood. You should see what a Dalmatian and a Springer can do with a 10# bag of birdseed.
  15. we picked up a 2yo track dog Derby Lane on 7/13. Track dewormed as precaution. Blood work was fine. Spay and dental done after 1 week More involved spay as she just started a heat cycle. Hook test was negative. After antibiotics finished, poop was pudding. Took poop to vet today and hook test was 3+. We are on 5 day course of Panacur and she will be delivered to her forever family Sat.
  16. I have inground pool with dark finish so dogs visiting may think it looks like pavement. With over 50 fosters ,so far several have walked in the pool. I NEVER let a dog stay in the yard alone. Treat the dogs as if a toddler even if they can learn to swim. I have wide steps at both ends that helps fishing them out.
  17. Standing by for this topic. Have a 5yo just adopted off Craig's List! Blood work shows a bit high on Creatine 1.7, NA/K ratio High at 39, SDMA High at 16. Vet suggests beginnings of Kidney disease and wants to start prescription kibble and recheck in 6 months.
  18. Tried a bunch of stuff . Only thing that helped my 12 yo was amitriptyline 75mg for 75 pound male. Can't predict thunder but when I know the waterfront starts it's city fireworks at 9 and 11 I dose an hour prior. Stormy ( rightly named) would go into his closet and go to sleep. Other meds he would still pant, drool and whine to get out of the house.
  19. Is amoxicillin 500mg or Cephalexin 500mg used for a male UTI
  20. Heavy infestation of resistant hooks came along with last 5 dogs pulled from north Florida farm. After 3 months of 2 doses or panacur, ivermectin and advantage MULTI has resulted in 2 negative hook report on my foster. Will continue on Advantage Multi into the future
