  1. Yup,walked in your shoes, recently. I was going to be his savior. My issue after my decision was did I wait too long After laying on the floor for several days with him I saw his light go away and He was needing my help. Only you and your doctor will know.Their hurt ends and our's begins. Time will help, precious memories will get you through.
  2. Seniors Rock. If you think their get up and go,got up and went, they can surprise you.Age mellows. Old church windows are the prettiest
  3. I can't even leave a sponge in the sink. The grey is ok about not surfing, but the Standard Poodle eats the sponge right out of the sink. Wondered what the yellow stuff was in the poop bag!
  4. The harness was my savior. Stormy would freeze at a breeze. Garbage trucks, motorcycles, roofers, ice maker, dishwasher, you name it.Anything sudden and unfamiliar would send him into helicopter mode. This was scarey for him and me .Just crossing a street or a parking lot for a M&G was a challenge. At least with the Wags, wiggles harness I could pick him up like a suitcase and go forward. We got better after 3-4 months. Be firm,be the boss and face the fears! Walking with a foster is helpfull also
  5. Nothing happening with my three.2 are holding court on the couch and #3 in in my bed wet from falling in the pool
  6. My rescue group suggests Head and Shoulders. Flakes do show up more on a black dog.Don't use too warm of water or you may end up with 70 pounds of tooooo relaxed houndy in the bottom of the tub! (Didn't find that info in the books)
  7. My " Stormy" looks like he was named right. He is a beautiful 6yo red brindle. He was with another group and then 4 foster homes. He is my gotcha now & forever. One canine 1/2 gone, rear toe missing, adorable floppy ears with only one standing like a radar dish, neck is bald and bald butt. It is growing back but I don't dare tell him it;s coming in "gray". I can't imagine life without him.
  8. Our 6yo boy was eating his butt raw.A trip to the vet,no anal gland problem...Vet says that his not very common in the breed. A urine test in office showed Urinary Track Infection. 10 days antibiotic cleard up. Vet tech suggested Purina One was the cause, not good enough food.I moved up to Purina Pro Plan .None of the dogs liked Natural Balance or Nutro!
  9. Welcome neighbor....Just across the Skyway Bridge.Yes I used to drive over the first bridge that fell.On my 3rd foster hound, failed badly and adopted him. USS Firesorm ( aka Stormy ) did have a life at Derby Lane. My heart breaks each time a hound leaves but the need is so greyt. I almost have enough with a Standard Poodle,A goofy dal/dane mix and a 22yo Maine Coon. I am taking on sitting Greys for locals who need to get away for emergency or respite.
  10. Maybe he was feeling the Christmas Spirit. My boys are unsettled with all the unusual energy in the house.
  11. I use turkey franks. one piece plain to start ,then slip the pill in the second. Sometimes I have to play Mr Airplane to get some interest.
  12. Handsome critter! Noticed the ears first, then the walnuts. Ok Ok nothing new ,but always been around fosters and adopted greys,I have never seen the jewels on a hound.See and learn something new everyday
  13. UTI... today. Our first bout. 6yo male had dripping down there.Dancing around the house like his butt was afire.Drinking lots of water. It must burn badly. Also checked anal glands,ok Vet tech said Purina Pro Plan is not good enough. Had total blood work in Oct at dental time. All the dogs have been on it for 6 weeks. Excited to get a new Foster tomorrow.
  14. My last foster crossed over last month. I found my old grey- buddy in need of a final home after his owner went to a Dementia Hospice. The arthritis was so bad,I would sling him up to go out. When the tramodol and everything else in the bag of tricks didn't resolve his crying out all night....It was time. The 1 hour ride equipped with lots of goodies (brain was very alert but the body failed) was real hard. A member of the greyhound group met us at the vet. It was after hours and no rush .We sat and told good stories and cried and laughed. His passing was so peaceful.Even though I don't have his ashes (greyhound group took them to Grey Haven) I have his heart.I don't even find it odd that my "adopted hound" is by my side licking my leg as I type. I always wonder if I waited too long
  15. Got ticks again. Bad case in June,my group said Frontline plus was the way to go because of a catin the house. Allwent well dead ticks we found on the dog beds. Now October find ticks on all 3 dogs, Frontline plus applied 2 weeks ago and now find ticks on feet and necks 2 weeks later.
  16. My foster( for 8 months) came with a racing injury/amputation of outer rear toe. He is just fine. He is even BETTER now that I adopted him!
  17. Everything still raw with letting my 11yo go last week. Arthritis made a rear leg drag and pivioting wwas the only way to get around.I wonderd if I was selfish and waited too long. The crying out at night was the final answer for me. His passing was so peaceful and a gift to him.I took pictures the morning of his trip and now can see the pain and sorrow in his eyes. If you are asking yourself THE question, you know the answer.
  18. It's time today for my old buddy to go today. I found you in the wanted for good home ad. Your owner would not leave his home for a retirement center, until Kerry was rehomed after 7 yrs. When I saw your beautiful red hair with black roots and those big brown eyes,YOU were mine. It's only been 3 months, like forever. You never told me why you didn't race or why you were placed at Boston Animal Shelter, but you had a pamperd life....and I enjoyed spoiling you more. The last few weeks you couldn't walk ,it was time. Nope you pulled it together at McDonald's for yogert.I won't let you down, your pain will be gone and mine just starts.Bye my sweet man.
  19. Actually everything that remains goes into a large "blender" that pulverizes down to about coarse beach sand. I finally opened the containers of my dalmatian and my springer (both 15 and passed within 3mo of each other)The remains are a beautiful pink ,gray and white coral looking material. Amazing it looked like my mom's ashes. It really reminded me of dust to dust....... we all have a commen denominator.
  20. After the shock of my mother being cremated. My sister commented that we would "know" hers because of the titanium hip replacements. The funeral director said that would be treated as medical waste. We really wanted to "do" something with them, being an artist!
  21. With 4 different color dogs,I never had ticks until sitting a grey from out in the country. After the boy went home,I found a ring of fat ticks around the neck and between toes on the lightest dog. Never did see them, but felt them and was shocked!. Maybe in a couple days the ticks would be swollen enough to see. Everybody got a bath and frontline.
  22. My 6yo boy (today) is a big eater. He devours 2 1/2 cups am and 2 1/2 cups pm ,never satistied. He is a tall, thin guy who raced at 78#. He stays at 70# with too many treats. All blood work is normal .All are born to run,but some are born to eat! He loves beer and wine, anything! He drank his X-foster mom's Starbucks at the last M&G I was expecting the have D all over the house. He has been in 4 foster homes due to phobias and fears. Iam adopting him this week and he knows it.I swear he looks at me differently now, after 9months fostering him, I can,t imagine this house without him!.......Another foster failure.
  23. My greyhound group( as everyone else) is having extreme money problems. My question is; are all these vaccinations yearly neccesary? I understand the rabbies is important but are the rest? If people get polio.measles,or whatever,One time, plus busters why are animals doing this yearly?
  24. Welcome aboard,I'm fairly new here We are is St Petersburg. On my 2nd foster from Greyhound Resue& Adoptions of Tampa Bay. Having fun at Meet & Greets at local pet stores. Found a lot of great information in this forum.
