  1. My housemate is houndsitting for his ex-wife while she travels for a job interview. I got the idea to walk both Magic and Peachy at the same time. Peachy is used to walking with another hound (Amelia went to the Bridge last week) but Magic is not and I'm not used to walking 2 at a time. This evening I walked both and did fine. I started off with Magic in my right hand (I'm right handed) and Peachy in my left. As soon as we got out the door, they were tangled so I had to switch. After we got going, of course, each one sometimes had to sniff in a different direction. After the initial tangle, they did fine. Do any experts have any suggestions? Thanks.
  2. Last Tuesday, my housemate, his ex-wife, and 2 daughters had to send their 11 1/2 year old greyhound to the Bridge. She hadn't been doing well lately. She had pain in her back. I don't know if it was osteo or something else. She cried when she laid down and was grumpy. Here's the only picture I have of Amelia (the smaller brindle) along with my housemate, Peachy (the fawn) and my Magic (the larger brindle). In the picture, you can see that Amelia has her head down. She wasn't able to hold it up higher. Run free sweet Amelia.
  3. My housemate's daughter lost her hound, Amelia this week.

  8. Is it warm to the touch? Magic had an infection in his leg last spring and it was swollen and warm to the touch.
  9. Thanks for the input all. Magic is fine. He was on leash-walking for 2 weeks and wasn't overly happy about it. I was just more curious than concerned especially since I knew that it was a soft-tissue injury; and, also, since it was over 2 weeks ago and the swelling is long gone.
  10. It was soft-tissue. The vet showed me the x-ray and described what a tumor would look like which it was not. She also did a lyme disease test and that was negative too.
  11. About 2 1/2 weeks ago, when I got home from work, Magic was barely putting any weight on his right rear leg. When I took him to the vet, naturally, she was concerned about osteo. The injury turned out to be a soft-tissue injury (or as I've been calling it a doggie sprained ankle) My question is can the limping and swelling associated with osteo show up suddenly other than an obvious break? When I left for work, he was walking normally. When I got home, he was limping. I was so scared while the x-ray was being developed and then so relieved when it was negative that I forgot to ask the vet this question.
  12. My housemate's 2 greyhounds, who live with his ex-wife are currently not on heart worm medications. The vet apparently told them that the girls don't need it any longer due to their age and the fact that they're not outside all that often. They live in a town setting although they do visit once in awhile. Has anyone else been told this by their vet? I would like to emphasize that I don't plan on stopping Magic's heart worm med no matter what the vet says. We live in a rural area where there are more risk factors for heart worm. During warmer weather, we leave the door to the fenced-in yard open so he can come and go as he pleases. I'm not sure if it makes a difference in what others have been told but the girls are 11 and will be 12 in May. Magic is 10 and will be 11 in January. Thanks.
  13. When I first adopted Magic, I gave him lamb and rice and he didn't do well. It could easily have been track vs. non-track food. It could have even been the brand. I've gotten other brands of lamb and rice and he's done fine.
