  1. Magic has bitten me a couple of times. The first time was while he was being attacked several years ago. I was trying to comfort him and he bit me probably out of fear. The second time I was having a nightmare and flailed my arms and woke him up which caused him to bite me on the bridge of my nose.
  2. Run free Heart. to you, Judy, and the rest of your family
  3. We've had a yard for a few years now (over a couple of different homes). This is the first place we've lived with a bird feeder that attracts the squirrels. I don't recall too many squirrels in the previous yards.
  4. Over the last week, Magic has shown some prey drive. He chased squirrels in the yard. Prior to the last week, he barely gave squirrels notice even if one would cross his path on a walk and hadn't really chased them in the yard. I usually joke that his only prey drive is for cookies and petting; although he did show some interest in moles on a couple of occasions. Is it possible for a greyhound with seemingly no prey drive for 6+ years to suddenly show some? Magic is 10 1/2 and has been with me for almost 6 years. Other than keeping an eye out when Magic and Whiskers (the cat) are in the yard together and when we meet small dogs on walks and pet stores, does anyone have any suggestions?
  5. Magic's only experience with a deer was a stare down. I did hold his leash in both hands just in case.
  6. Magic is a sofa licker too although he will lick his bed. Sometimes he'll be licking his leg and the sofa at the same time. It's funny; he doesn't lick me much. Occasionally, he'll lick my hand but that's about it.
  7. Run Free Archie. Amber, Soulman, and DBF Carol and Magic
  8. I wasn't sure where to put this since it's not exactly an H&M question. This is primarily for those of us who are out all day or for long periods without our dogs whether working, volunteering, school, etc. and there is no doggie door or dog walker available. Does your dog(s) drink water during the day? Magic drinks very little if any during the day when I'm out at work. Magic does have a full bowl of water available. I'm not sure if he doesn't drink because he knows he can't go out during the day or because he's too busy sleeping. He does drink normally when I'm home and can let him out. Since we don't have AC and I work close to home, I can come home at lunch break to let him out and, if necessary, give him more water. I was wondering if this was common. Thank you.
  9. Robin, I'm so sorry to read about Phene. I've been thinking about him a lot lately. Run free Phene Carol and Magic
  10. Thanks for bumping this. Magic seems to like hot weather but I don't let him do anything he shouldn't. In fact, today I came home to check on Magic (10 years old) and my landlord's 2, 11-year olds during my lunch break. Fortunately, there are lots of trees around the house which is stone and one of the fans was on as well as some of the windows' being open.
  11. Sending prayers and white light to you and Albi.
  12. Robin, you hit the nail right on the head about reading the medical reports. I rarely read H&M because I'm such a worrier. It doesn't help that, even though I don't read Remembrance unless I know one of the dogs or their people, I see the dates and I'm seeing a lot of 2001-2011. Magic was born in 2001. I hope Phene is feeling better soon. I didn't mention it before but he's having no trouble jumping on or off the sofas and is eating normally.
  13. Thank you for asking Robin. Magic is fine other than his leg. I'm definitely considering x-rays but will have to wait until payday (a week from Friday). He's not having any problems jumping up on the sofas or getting off. He didn't have any pain when I was running my hands up and down his leg earlier. At the time of the attack, the vet said he might develop arthritis in that leg.
  14. I was just reading Robinw's thread about Phene. Magic has a similar issue in the same leg on occasion. Some of you may remember that Magic was attacked about 5 years ago. This evening it seemed worse. He is putting weight on it and doesn't appear to have any pain. His leg just sometimes goes weak. It's damp around here today and it usually seems worse when it's damp and/or cold. Like Robin, I'm really scared. Magic was at the vet a few months ago and he manipulated the leg (but no x-rays) and seemed to think he may have arthritis.
  15. I just started using Iverhart. I called the vet and he didn't say not to use it.
  16. If it happens again, point out your girlie's reaction and tell him that is not a good thing. I think I've seen signs somewhere that state that a high speed greyhound lives there. You can probably find them online or even have one made. That would indicate to the neighborhood kids not to open the gate (in addition to your educating them) and would basically not state that the dogs are vicious; just fast.
  17. that's why it never phased emily, after 168 weigh-ins, she probably thought "what took them so long?" That's why I don't understand Magic's issue with the scale. He had 196 races. As I tell everyone, he takes retirement very seriously. Maybe he thinks that he's going to race again, but I still think he doesn't want me to know his weight so I don't cut his cookie count down.
  18. Thanks for the comments. I'm not worried about it; it just seems strange how Magic doesn't mind going to the vet. He stands still for shots and exams but doesn't like the scale. I was basically more curious as to whether any other dogs didn't like the scale. Of course, it's also very possible he doesn't want anyone (especially me) to know how much he weighs. If he weighs too much, his cookie count may go down.
  19. Magic doesn't appear to have any problem going to the vet for any reason. He'll walk in just like he will anywhere. However, when it comes time to weigh him, he won't get on the scale without being lifted on by the vet techs. I'm not sure if he's scared or just doesn't want anyone to know what he weighs. Someone said it could be the lack of color contrast on some scales. Does anyone else's dogs (hound or otherwise) seem to have an issue with the scale?
  20. Chris, Dude looks greyt. In the first picture, it almost looks like he's stacking.
