  1. Rocket says he's willing to try if I want to increase his dosage....
  2. Thanks Looks similar except Rocket's is smaller but more pronounced (if that makes sense). The procedure was very minor the last time, they did the stain before hand etc, I just think they way over-doped him or he doesn't handle being put under well, not sure which. If we have to do it, then we will get his teeth cleaned while he's under so that we don;t have to put him under later for that too. He is rubbing it a times which is how we knew it was there the last time too. We will head to another vet that some other greyhound people here are very happy with just to make sure all bases are covered for anthestesia . Thanks for the responses!
  3. Rocket has a small growth that I thought was a big chunk of dust when it first appeared a few months ago. It is basically a small bump right on the edge of the outer eyelid. A couple of months ago when he kept rubbing the eye I took him into the vet and they said that they needed to sedate him to take it off. They did it that day and I was subsequently pretty unhappy, as it seemed like he was given a huge dose of knockout juice based on how he acted for a couple days afterward. He could have also just been overly sensitive to it but either way, and for more reasons than that, we are checking out a new vet who is more greyhound savvy. Our original greyhound vet at this practice left, and I just have not been overly happy about using them since. I know that others have had those same small growths on the eyelid. I'm wondering if sedation is always necessary to take something like that off. I understand why it would be, but the thing seems so miniscule that I feel like sedation could be overkill if there is some other option that I just don't know about. If sedation is necessary, I feel like I should also go ahead and have his teeth cleaned and checked out if he has to be knocked out anyway. He has never needed a dental since coming off the track, and other than some staining of a few teeth, it seems as if Bully Sticks have kept his teeth in pretty good shape. He turns 10 next week, so if we are going to ever need a dental, I'd prefer to do it sooner rather than later. Any thoughts or experiences with the eyelid thing would be appreciated.
  4. Just remember that a low growl like that is a warning that she is uncomfortable with whatever is going on. It may be too soon for furniture privileges at all if she is doing that. Others will chime in with more advice, but I take a growl as a "heads up" to correct whatever is heppening at that moment. Better a growl than a bite.
  5. I use about 4-6 ounces of hot water to a tablespoon of the carrots and it is the consistency of oatmeal. Rocket gets half of that with breakfast, and half with dinner. The carrots really bulk up the stool and we have gone from having liquid stools to perfectly formed. Be sure that you have ruled out other things first though, especially things like a particular food or protein not agreeing iwth your hound. You don't want the carrots to mask a symptom of a different problem.
  6. What a handsome dude! Even better that Truman picked him as his new buddy! Congratulations!
  7. I recall some people here grinding up shells as well and mixing those into meals. I haven't done it so don't know how small or fine they need to be ground. Anyone else feed the shells also?
  8. Dr. Rocket prescribes ice cream. Feel better soon, Val.
  9. So sorry you are dealing with this. Spoil him rotten and post lots of pictures!
  10. Irene, You and your family have had to go through this way too many times. Thank you for all you do for the hounds. Run free, Lucky.
  11. Rocket won't eat his breakfast unless there's cottage cheese on it. Not that he's spoiled or anything..... He will eat anyhitng for dinner, but breakfast must have the cottage cheese or he just stands there until you put it on. I just kind of go
  12. I'm so sorry for the loss of your sweet girl. Run free, Storm.
  13. Jan, I'm so sorry to see this. I know that I got to meet him at a previous Dewey, and wish I had run into you this year just so I could give those great ears a rub. I'm so glad that he got to make one more Dewey trip and another run on the beach. Run free, Ben. Send your Mom a sign.
  14. This is a bad place if you want an objective opinion. Bunch of enablers around here. (Or maybe that's what you were trying for.... )
  15. Green Bag is not grain free. It come in a couple of kibble sizes to make it easier for various sizes of dogs to eat such as Mini Chunks or Large Breed etc, but those are the same food, just with different sized pieces.
  16. Check the kibble bag and see how much they call for based on his weight. Adjust from there. . If the food is particularly heavy in calories you may only need 3 - 3.5 cups per day. If you want to get some weight off of him quickly, substitute a half can of green beans for a cup of kibble in one of his meals daily until you get him where you want.
  17. Just about every fabric softener contains some form of ammonia or ammonium chloride to do the actual softening. Liquids and dyer sheets both use it. If it is the fabric softener causing her actions, she is most likely smelling the ammonia and trying to mark or mask it.
  18. I'm so sorry for your loss. Henry has always been one of my favorites here. Run pain-free, Henry.
