  1. I'm so sorry! It sounds like he had a very happy life with you...
  2. Sahara: Tears up paper. She is 8 years old, but shows no sign of stopping. Sometimes she will pull mail off the counter to shred. Coltrane: Walks slowly if he thinks a walk is boring. We were laughed at by some college kids in the Outer Banks as he was dragging so far behind me. He was pouting because I wouldn't let him pee on the Wright Brothers monuments. Atlas: Just started eating Sahara's poop about a month ago. 'Nuff said.
  3. So sweet! Her markings are somewhat similar to Atlas', so the video gives me an idea of what he looked like as a puppy. Not to hijack your thread, but here's a pic of Atlas from two weeks ago. We were doing a major leaf clean-up!
  4. Your dogs are beautiful! I especially love seeing the puppy pictures. :wub
  5. So sad. RIP Varly and I hope your neice finds peace with her decision.
  6. One vote for doing a culture of the wound if this round of meds don't help. Sahara had a slow-to-heal wound on her elbow. After many rounds of antibiotics, the vet cultured it. We found she had a staph infection that was resistant to all but one form of antibiotics. ETA: I hope she feels better soon!
  7. Welcome! The picture of Angel is too funny. I had two female grey cats (best cats ever) that looked just like her. Also, I am impressed that you were able to post pictures on your first post.
  8. Welcome! Cam is a cutie. And good luck with the house training. I've heard that it can be difficult with Iggies.
  9. I hope they will work out for you. Winnie might just have a rocky adjustment period. I always thought that Bella was a cutie. Best of luck to Dragonmom & her kids! I know this must have been a heart-wrenching decision for them.
  10. Sahara is a "sometimes" digger. I don't encourage it, as she gets very dirty and tracks mud into the house. Haven't been able to stop it, though.
  11. Congratulations! It is funny that her name was so similar to your Arlo. I would probably mix them up all the time!
  12. Coltrane lost a nail & it grew back sticking out sideways. I just cut it really short so it doesn't bump into anything. The quick is shorter than on any of his other nails so he doesn't care how much I cut off it. He's had the sideways nail for about a year with no ill effects.
  13. I'm so sorry to hear about Rose. She was beautiful, inside and out.
  14. I just used this for Atlas' obedience class. I used hot dogs for treats sometimes & just put them in a sanwich baggie in the nail pouch. And it was $.79 here in Greensboro.
  15. The aspirin caper is too cute, though I'm sure you were frantic at the time. Hugs for you this day.
  16. I'm so sorry to read this. Give Atlas' auntie a kiss for me!
  17. Hopefully it will just turn out to be a soft tissue injury or something equally treatable. She looks beautiful and very much like Atlas in the last pic.
  18. Sahara does it pretty regularly, usually when DH or I come home from work. It is sweet. Coltrane rubs his face on the couch after he eats, which is not so sweet.
  19. Also, if you grab a hound by a loose collar, he could pull his muzzle off when he backs out of the collar.

    Tuna

I'm so sorry to hear you lost Tuna!
  21. Last month when I took Sahara in for her annual checkup/HW test/vaccinations, I told the vet I was interested in switching her to a 3 year schedule. He had no problem with it, as he knew I would still take her in for the HW checks & checkups each year. He didn't seem concerned that she would contract any diseases. You could try asking your vet how many cases cases of Parvo/Distemper he's seen in older dogs who've had regular vaccinations. One thing to keep in mind with the Ft Worth dogs is that their immune systems were likely run down from being underweight and covered in ticks. PP - I wouldn't vaccinate my cat if I were in your situation. I have been vaccinating my own cat because (prior to Atlas) I had been fostering cats and kittens for our local AC.
  22. I'm so sorry to hear about Mylie. Thank you for adopting her, even when you knew you wouldn't have much time together.
  23. With Atlas' food, I alternate mixing in an egg, a scoop of canned food and peanut butter. I mix the PB in with a bit of water so it makes a sauce and I can use less of it. He is also a picky eater and is very boney. It can be frustrating when they just don't want to eat! Sahara & Coltrane always gobble their food right up.
  24. In the past year: Coltrane ~$150 for his rabies vaccination, senior bloodwork, and HW test. About 18 months ago he had a bout of incontinence that we spent maybe $300 on. Sahara was a very cheap dog until last year. Just annual physicals & HW tests, with not even a dental since we adopted her. In October, she broke & dislocated her wrist while running, then at the E-Vet her blood stopped clotting properly. Two vets thought the clotting problems were consistent with a Copperhead bite. Then she got a staph infection in a sore on her elbow from her splint. I never did add up the full costs, and I don't think I ever want to! I do remember that the E-Vet bill was $2700.
  25. When I saw your topic title, I thought epulis, too. Good luck at the vet. His teeth look pretty clean, too.
