  1. Prayers for recovery with no infection this time! I always hoped no crime would be discovered at my house, cause if they did the luminal test for cleaned up blood they’d arrest me before discovering it was canine! Happy tail memories of my sweet Ronee❤️
  2. Not sure about reunions held at bar k but that’s a great idea. Kc has 3 area greyhound groups - the newbie, retired not rescued, mokan, and Regap (anti racing). We moved here from Oklahoma 3 years ago with our greyhounds, so we have not affiliated with any of the groups in the area.
  3. Somewhere you might want to check out is Bar K in Kansas City, mo. We’ve never been but I know lots who have and swear by it. It’s a restaurant/bar/dog parks. You have to have a membership but can get a guest pass. They do have a website and their phone number is 816-474-2275. If you go there let us know how it is!
  4. The greyhound museum (hall of fame)in abilene at least used to be greyhound friendly with a catch.....you must call ahead and let them know you’re coming. They have, or used to have, a greyhound that lived at the museum and seeing as how it was home they put it up before other hounds come on to their turf. 785-263-3000 is their number.
  5. Ah - happy tail - Ronee was the happy til queen. Vet finally had to amputate her ankle length tail to knee length. Agree foam rollers and also foam pool toys - the long noodles - can be cut into appropriate lengths.
  6. So sorry. It’s so hard.....but the most living gift you can give. I keep telling myself that as we just made that decision for phog 🥲. Our sympathy
  7. Beware of Phog aka Phog dog, phoggy, phogster. Years ago We were honored to be offered a chance to name an unraced puppy.....as KU alumni and basketball fans we chose “Beware of Phog” for his name. He raced 104 times at derby lane ... stakes caliber guy. Many of you cheered us on in the gt “watching and waiting” thread. When his career ended with injury his owner agreed he should spend his retirement being part of our family. We drove to florida and picked him up and he acted like he’d known us forever - our first visit ever to a track and his kennel could not have been nicer seeing Phog off for his new chapter. he suffered from corns and couldn’t take the meds due to a heart murmur...so last October he had the flexor tenotomy surgery - he would walk forever he was so happy. Six weeks ago he started limping. The evet did X-ray and thought soft tissue injury - but meds and rest were not helping as it got rapidly got worse. Our regular vet took new X-rays and with the ability to compare to the pics and confirmed our nightmare — osteosarcoma. We tried to control the pain to no avail.....so we helped him to the bridge on Monday. the walk is never long enough. Our hearts are broken
  8. I am so sorry - our sympathy and many hugs.
  9. The walk is truly never long enough. My sympathy and many hugs to you
  10. Sorry - PADS NOT PAWS 😂😂😂
  11. Phog had the flexor tenetomy surgery last October - I’ve posted on gt about our experience....he had the new surgery that goes thru the back of the leg above the paw and it was very reasonable (he had 3 legs and 4 paws done poor guy!). I would do it again in a nano second! If you can’t find my posts thru search pm me and I’ll happily answer any questions u have
  12. That sounds perfect.....so sweet. We all grieve, but the innocence and love of a child is so special.
  13. Virtual hugs to you. Along with our sympathy
  14. Of course on all the photos - what comforts you will comfort children as well. Our Ronee (rollover ronee) passed away when our grandboys were 2 and 4. They live close and were here frequently pre-pandemic. Ronee was the favorite of our 3 greyhounds - super soft and always gentle ...the boys were frequently found curled up with Ronee on her bed sleeping. For a year or so after Ronee died the second the boys came over their first comments were about Ronee “where’s Ronee” “Ronee died didn’t she?” “Is Ronee still in heaven?” “We miss Ronee” . We would quietly say we missed Ronee too and that she was very special. “.
  15. On January 3rd, Teddy Palmer’s birthday, Halfway home greyhounds in Tulsa, OK officially posted on their website: “With the changing racing greyhound industry and many of the greyhound farms closing, there are fewer greyhounds that need homes. With the lack of greyhounds along with family health issues, it is with sadness and a ”greyt” sense of accomplishment, that halfway Home Greyhound Adoption closed its doors in 2020. Since 2001 we have helped over 6,670 racing and farm greyhounds move into adoption groups and forever homes. Thank you - we could not have done this without you and your support.” Teddy Palmer is a true pioneer in greyhound adoption. A former greyhound adoption person of the year, she dedicated herself to the group and precious hounds. In the early years Teddy traveled the state of Oklahoma getting to know greyhound breeders and trainers and introducing them to the idea of greyhound adoption. So many of you have Oklahoma bred and/or trained greyhounds that came thru halfway home. I am honored to have known Teddy well......and so blessed to have our past and present “family members” whistlers win, Rivendell escort, kL baby bleu, rollover ronee, rowdy Jill and beware of Phog because of teddy. Thank you teddy and Russ for all you have done! They truly made a difference - well done! A “greyt” accomplishment indeed.
  16. Welcome and you’re welcome here no matter if your new greyhound is adopted after (or before 😂) racing or not! Mine are all adopted ex racers so I’m of no help to you either. But a big hello.
  17. Hi there - bluey is quite handsome! Looks like a keeper to us 😃. Welcome to gt
