Guest tsmith1
I went with a new vet since my old vet really didn't have any experience with greyhounds. The new vet has recommended Trifexis which is also used by several other greyhound clients. SInce it contains a flee preventative as well I thought it worth the try. Anyone have any side effects? Guest undergreysspell
I just used it for the first time 2 wks ago and had no problems at all. Both dogs did fine.
kolarik1
Both of my pups refused to take it, I had to break it in half and shove it down their throats...I don't use it anymore. I don't know if it's the medicine smell or what, but they won't even take it. sonya
Cinnibuns would not take it either. I tried everything to sneak it in her food and nothing worked. I ended up cutting in half and cramming it down her throat (well, you know what I mean). The price is outrageous in my opinion especially living on a fixed income. I would like to get another but twice the price of trifexis prohibits that for me. I have since switched to Iverhart that I got through Drs. Foster & Smith. One year supply half the price of 6 months of trifexis. Just my 2 cents
Guest starbuck
Starbuck takes it, covered in peanut butter. Works very well. Ridiculously expensive, though.
Time4ANap
Gave it to Rocket for the first time this month. He threw it up after about an hour. The vet says since it stayed in that long, it would still be effective, and that he may not throw it up again, but they often see that with the first dose. Waiting for Interceptor to start production and come back on the market. We will go back to interceptor as soon as it becomes available. Production lines have started back up for some of the related products using the same ingredients, so hopefully Interceptor will be available by the time we use the last of our Trifexis. Guest Pete
Bob and Shammy both use it. No adverse effects at all. I had of course read about all kinds of nasty things that trifexis can do to your dog but we certainly don't see any Bob thinks it's a treat and gobbles it right down. dante2zoe
Brady takes it. He came to me with hooks that were stubborn in leaving. Trifexis is supposed to help with hooks. I do have to pill him though, but he refuses to willingly take any pill other than his renal pill. No adverse effects here. It is crazy expensive, though! Guest Doggone
Autumn also was started on Triflexis. She willingly takes any pills snuck into her food, so that's not a problem. What IS a problem is the price.......OMG! Since she has 5 more months' supply, I'll keep watching these forums to see if another (equal, but less expensive) product is/becomes available. I've checked online suppliers, but the savings would only be a few dollars compared to her vet's cost . I'd want to continue with a tablet/pill Rx, since she'll easily take it, plus I don't want to start with ointments/collars, etc.
LaFlaca
I crush it and mix it in to Wendy's food...no problem. But, yes, over-the-top expensive. Big pharma. has us all by the b@llz. PatricksMom
Frontline doesn't work here and I can't get Intercepter so I've been using it for several months. No problems, but I do bury it in a pretty big treat, just to be on the safe side. Quote Beth, Petey (8 September 2018- ), and Faith (22 March 2019). macoduck
We use Trifexis here. None of my dogs will chew it so I break it in half and pop it in them. My mutt girl Pudge will occasionally vomit about an hour later so I now give it to her at least 30 minutes before a meal. Guest tasha
I've used it in the past, but will most likely be using Revolution this year. I agree, Trifexus is expensive, more expensive in fact than Revolution! Sentinel was a much more cost-friendly option, and we're all keeping our fingers crossed that it'll come back! With our boy up from West Virginia, however, where hookworm is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get rid of, we'll be doing some additional deworming! Guest RMarie
We used it once because Heartguard was giving James diarrhea. Trifexis also gave him diarrhea. Because of the price and the fact that we already had a big supply of Heartguard left, we switched back to Heartguard, and (knock on wood) we haven't had anymore diarrhea. Guest tsmith1
holy crud, the vet gave me a sample & I was only concerned about the side effects. Checking the prices I have chosen to advise Sherlock that he is going to have to come out of retirement and earn a living again.
JJNg
Trifexis usually ends up being cheaper than the combined price of buying separate products for heartworm prevention and flea control. Plus, it's a lot more effective against fleas than any of the topical products. a_daerr
Just want to emphasize that Trifexis DOES NOT CONTROL TICKS. Please look into a tick preventative, as tick borne diseases have been really rampant in the last year.

If you're in an area where they are common you'll want to have a separate tick treatment. No side effects here, but non of mine will eat it out of hand - not even Toni who will eat poop! I end up having to pill them all, which is not a big deal once a month. BIG CAVEAT: DO NOT USE TRIFEXIS ON DOGS THAT SUFFER SEIZURES! OUr group has decided not to use it just because we are getting so many dogs now with idiopathic seizures that have cropped up. TINMANPDX
I use it on mine, and like that it takes care of both heartworm and fleas. We have had no side effects. The rather large tablets smell VILE - like rotten mushrooms or extreme mold. I didn't take a chance that mine would turn up their noses (the stuff is darned expensive!) ... so I wrap the tablets up in a couple of cold cuts and they chomp them right down. ILoveJulep
I've had Julep on this for 10 months now with no issues. It is a little spendy, but works aout to be the same price as heartguard + frontline for 6 months. The pill is ridiculously huge, so I wrap it in half a kraft single and it gets eaten with no issues. I use Frontline Plus with no problems, but I can see how it might be less effective in warmer areas with more fleas. Do you have a cat? K9 Advantix is supposed to be very effective, but you're not really supposed to use it if you have cats. The ingredients can be potentially fatal if your dog and cat touch each other, share beds, etc. If I'm taking the dogs out in the summertime, I spray their legs with OFF Repellant. In years past, I've also sprayed my yard with flea repellant by Adams.

Guest undergreysspell
A preventic collar will work well for ticks in addition to the trifexis.

Plus, it's a lot more effective against fleas than any of the topical products. Which is exactly why I use trifexis. I use a preventic collar for ticks. I prefer this system because I hate the Frontline streak on their backs and my more sensitive pup is clearly bothered by the chemical when I put it on her. I will add that with the preventic collar I do have to cover the portion that hits their bald necks because it does irritate their bare skin.
