Introducing Olivia From Arizona

Recommended Posts

I adopted Olivia, now 5 years old, in December. Not only is she my first Greyhound but also my first dog I've ever been owned by. So I was so happy to find this forum with so much good information to help me become a good Greyhound mommy. Olivia lives with her sister, a 10 year old Calico cat who barely tolerates "the dog" and who is just starting to forgive me for bringing a dog into her home.

Below is a picture of Olivia in her new hat that she bought at the annual Greyt Gathering in Phoenix. (I hope I followed photo insertion instructions correctly and it works.) Also, here is a picture of her doing what greyhounds seem to do best -- napping! The toy she's hugging is deceptive in its cuteness -- I placed it there for the picture. Olivia hasn't quite figured out what the purpose of a toy or a snuggly is.

Sorry my picture is so big. I've been trying to resize them both on here and on photobucket but it's not working. It just keeps going back to HUGE.

Olivia was formerly known as RDs Merrygoround and she ran several races (60 if I remember right) at the Tucson track and it was either 6 or 9 races she won, A class. She retired in November at about 4 1/2 years old. I know one of her sisters is also black but I wasn't able to find pictures of her other littermates online. I did see and meet one of her cousins at the Greyt Gathering (Liz kaz).

Sadly, yesterday morning she woke up limping on her left back leg and had to take a trip to the vet. She is being tested for Valley Fever and other desert diseases. The doctor gave her some anti-inflamatories and pain medication so she is able to walk better even though she still occasionally does a tri-pod hop as the medicine wears off before her next dosage. She is so brave though. I was worried about her not wanting to put weight on her leg when she got the in car to visit the vet, but when I got her leash out she got excited and hopped right in. She is such a darling, sweet girl.

Here is the picture of her in her hat that I was trying to include.

She is a really pretty girl. Love her name, too. Huge Law & Order SVU fan, so I like that name a lot! :)

Hope she is on the mend!

She is acting just as healthy as ever. She tested positive for valley fever and is being treated for it. Let the walks continue!

"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life, gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." -- Unknown
