Jeff
Oh, and about the rattlesnake anti-venom. The vet said her cost went from $300 a dose, to $600, to 'very expensive' to could not get it. Reserved for human use only.

Trudy
Is he in pain? Doesn't seem to be as much as last night, but holy moly, last night he cried. He is like Ryan was - does not show any reaction to pain unless it is really really bad. Can tell it hurts today, but he's not crying anymore. Guest Swifthounds
Oh, and about the rattlesnake anti-venom. The vet said her cost went from $300 a dose, to $600, to 'very expensive' to could not get it. Reserved for human use only. Wow. That's crazy. Is there anyone in the area with anti-venom? An acquaintance of mine just had one of his dogs in ICU from a rattlesnake bite and the emergency vet here had the anti-venom. I forget what he said the anti-venom cost, but recall it was negligible next to the hospitalization. I was rather surprised that the e vet had it - rattlesnake bites are not common here like in the south. So relieved for you that all T got was a fat leg and some sympathy. greyhead
T is a very lucky boy to have such hugely competent parents, willing and able to express enough venom to help him out! I did some research, and it's coral snake antivenom that our drug companies stopped producing a couple years ago because there isn't enough demand to make it worth their trouble. With rattlesnakes, there just don't seem to be enough people who want to milk them for venom anymore. Near as I can tell, we'd best just not get bitten by a rattler! DustysMom
In Arizona they offer "snake proofing" classes for dogs. Don't know the process or how well it works but just a thought... Glad he's going to be okay!
