Our family has adopted several senior hounds over the years! And we wouldn't hesitate to do it again! We like the older hounds here at my house!

Yeah, she is pretty lazy! I can see why she only had 20 races!

How scary Wendy! Sending good thoughts for Twiggy! Get in touch with Ellen Paulus. She gave me a recipe for a home made dog for dogs with kidney Diease! Angel was on for over a year. and my vet firmly believe's it gfave us more time with Angel. She made it almost 2 years with kidney diease!

Wow! it hard to believe that little spit fire has been gone 3 years already!

Lauren, Fast has been Gluocsomine since he came to us as a 7 year old who had broken his leg as a 2 year racing. Ellen Paulus recommended that we start him on it after we got him since he was older.dog with a previous racing injury. And he was on it on til just about a month ago. Our vet didn't seem to think the Glucosamine was helping any more since he now almost 13. He is on 2 different pain pills for the arthritis in the leg he had broken. We also had him on a different supplement as well. and the combination of those 3 things seem to be helping. He still does limp on that bad leg of his but not all the time though.

I have been using Fromm's for my hounds for years! and mine have done very well on it! Fromm's is made right here is good old Wisconsin! And they also haven't been affected by all the food recalls!

I second the 2Hounds harness as well! Before I started using the 2 Hounds harness. I was using the Premire Easy walk harness on my now Bridge girl Angel with little luck. Tried her on the 2Hounds harness and she was a completely diffrent dog on leash. I highly recommend it!

Sounds like a hunger issue to me as well. My hounds get a treat at bedtime so we have no yellow spots in the am!

To be completely honest I've had greys for over 16 years now. And I have only Frontlined my hounds twice over the years. And none of my hounds have ever had flea's or ticks on them.

It is with great sadness that I post about my sweet Angel's girl's passing! After a 20 month battle with Kidney diease. She was my constant companion for the last 9 years. And I wouldn't change a thing about it! She was my wild child! She was such a momma's girl! She was my heart dog! She was a amazing meet and greet girl, foster sister to all the foster hounds we've had over the years! She had such a big personality! And now our house feels empty with her gone! Run free my sweet Angel girl! your family loves you very much!

My girl Angel has kidney diease as well. She was on a home prepared food for dogs with kidney issues. But she stopped eating that about 6 months ago. We took her in January since we were having a hard time getting her to eat. The vet ran some blood work and her kidney functions were getting worse. At that time our vet gave told us that Angel has maybe 3 to 6 more months to live. And that was back in January. She's still hanging in there yet. But not by much some days. Her coat is rough looking,she has really bad breath and she is very skinny! There are days where she eats really well and there are day like today where she really doesn't want to eat. Then I just ask myself "Why I am doing this to her?"Then She looks at me with those big brown eyes of hers and tells me she's not done fighting yet! Like today she's hardly eaten anything all day. The only she's had all day are a Ensure shake, part of a plain McD's hamburger and some treats. And half of a piece of bread. Which she normally eat if she won't anything else. And she didn't even want that! She seems to be getting weaker with each passing day. I'm sorry if some of my babbling isn't making sense right now. But it hard to see threw the tears on my glasses right now! Every time I start thinking having to put Angel to sleep I start crying, like I'm doing right now!

We have a Freedom No pull Harness for my high prey drive girl Angel. And she behaves like a completely different dog on her walks when she wears . What I also started doing when she would start barking,and lunging at the squirels and rabbits is to stop walking.and stand perfectly still in place and we didn't continue walking until stopped acting like a crazy dog. She figured it out after about a week.

We have been dealing with Kidney Diease in Angel since november of 2013. She had been on a home cooked diet since shortly after we found out that she had it, But now she in the end stages of the diease and stopped eating the home cooked stuff back in January of this year. And they vet told us to let her eat what ever she wants to with in reason because she only has a few months left to live.
