Doolin Needs Some Healing Thoughts

Good job Doolin! Great update!

Weird problem though. I wonder if there is some kind of OTC throat spray you could use to numb his throat a little? I know part of having a sore throat is re-irritating it by swallowing to try and ease it.

That's an interesting thought! I'll have to look into that.

We might have to go to the e vet after all for a scope to see what's going on :( Doolin is REALLY bad this morning, he is having really bad spasms and he wants to eat things that are metal for some reason (the fence, the screen on the door, the zippers on the beds..) I will call the regular vet first to see what he thinks.

I'm just worried because they will have to put him under for the scope, and that always scares the crap out of me.

I hope all went fine yesterday at the vet. His symptoms are very strange and while putting him under is not something you want to do, it hopefully will help diagnose exactly what is going on. Please keep us updated when you can and we keep you both in our thoughts.

I was thinking seizures too, seeing the video and the craze to eat everything. Is it possible he got into a toxin of some sort?

I'm sorry he's not better, please keep us updated :( :( :(

So sorry to hear this Brie! I don't know how missed when you first posted it but I am sorry to hear that it's bothering him again. My fingers are crossed that it soon resolves and that you don't need to take him to the e-vet.

Brie, how is Doolin doing? When I read this yesterday my first thought was a mineral deficiency, which would explain his craving for metal objects and in some cases can result in tremors. My thoughts are with your sweet boy. I hope you and your mom get this figured out soon.

About an hour after I posted that last update, he bounced back to normal and throughout the day he had little bouts of spasms. If he continues these strange symptoms the next day or two, we will bring him to the e vet. It is looking good at the moment, he is being his normal playful self :):goodluck

That is definitely something to mention to the vet. Do you test that through blood work?

I'm not really sure about how to test for it, just mention it to your vet, he/ she should know if this could be a concern and how to test for it. I'm glad Doolin has been doing better and there haven't been any more episodes. Hopefully it will stay that way and you won't have to worry about it anymore.

Well, I guess it wasn't a scratched trachea. He is doing this "swallowing thing" again. It is a total mystery. He ate his breakfast normally this morning but this afternoon he is has been doing this on and off for the past hour. He has vomited 3 times. He is trying to eat anything and everything, and he totally panics when it starts up again. I have no idea what to do to make him feel better :cry1

When he did this the first time, it is when all his tummy/bloody stool problems began. He has been doing fantastic lately. I thought this battle was over - I guess not :(

The worst part is, we are in between vets. When he had all this stomach issues along with Mira's issues, I completely lost faith in our vet, he misdiagnosed both of them with very obvious things.

ETA - he has been under the care of a specialist for his tummy issues and she is great, but I don't know if this falls under her category?

I am so sorry Doolin is poorly again! I assume the specialist was an internist? Internal medicine covers quite a bit, and this behavior was linked to his stomach issues last time, so I would at least talk to her about her seeing him again. :bighug

We are definitely going to make an appointment to bring him in to her. I just don't know if he needs to be seen right now, I have no idea what to do. He seems calm right now and is trying to sleep. This happened about 20 minutes ago and got up all panicky again...Hopefully it is over.
