sweetdogs Posted February 9, 2011 Share Posted February 9, 2011 My Faolin would have been 14 today but he flew off to the bridge 2 weeks ago. He had been doing very well for an old boy & I was so excited for him & proud of him to be so close to attaining that milestone. But this winter was just too much for him & he went down in the rear. I let him go on a day with 2 snowstorms, right between them. Since then, we've had an ice storm & with 40 mile an hour winds today, I think he was possibly clairvoyant & decided to get out while he could. Faolin was my first dog & I got him in November 1999 at a little less than 3 yo. He was a big, beautiful, stubborn boy with a very gentle nature. His short career was a disappointment but I am delighted I have his last 2 races at Shoreline on tape. I root for him every time but he still interferes. Faolin was an excellent brother, both to my shy Liath & to my silly Conor. He was an enthusiastic ear licker & a chow hound - he lived for his treats & his walks. This video was taken about a month ago. He got his first tuna tooter as a Suzy Award winner & he highly recommends them. He enjoyed many trips to Dewey where this picture was taken. When I first saw this David French painting, I gasped. It looks exactly like him. What's over there? Both these images describe part of his personality - always looking for something, somewhere. He was such a good boy but he always wanted something else. I'm not sure I measured up to his expectations but I tried. I have a long narrow yard & he loved running the whole length. Particularly if he had an audience. I am the fastest dog ever - watch me!! He hadn't been able to manage more than an occasional trot for a while now, so I know the first thing he did when he got to the bridge was run. And that's why it was so windy today, his birthday.
