Guest Energy11
s, YES, IT IS A ROLLERCOASTER, but, we have to try everything before giving up. REST ASSURED, she is NOT suffering, OR, I wouldn't be doing this!!!! We have rescheduled her appt. for Tuesday afternoon for her T4, and we will go from there. As I mentioned, we have LOTS AND LOTS of Valium here if we need it to treat seizures. YOU COULDN'T DRIVE HERE IF YOU WANTED TO TODAY ... OMG!!!! Icy and foggy! Make sure you do the full thyroid panel, not just the T4. Many gh's are incorrectly diagnosed with a low thyroid because they're T3 and T4 are low -- but that doesn't make them truly low -- having those low AND the TSH elevated is what is the sure tell. sending you guys more hugs and prayers. You have been on my mind constantly. :hope Yes,, DEFINITELY a FULL PANEL! And, thanks for having us ... on your mind!

Guest Energy11
Goldie is status quo. Right NOW she is roaching! She is soo peaceful and NORMAL during the day! IT TOTALLY BAFFLES ME!! Last night it was 2.5 hours of pacing, whining, crying and nipping! Just have NO IDEA at this point. She gets her thyroid checked Tuesday afternoon, and maybe it's that? Still could be a tumor, and like people with Alzheimers, and mental illnesses, they can be worse at night. UGH! We are soo tired, but she is still my Goldie, at least during the day. I have pet insurance and could do an MRI, but Goldie does NOT do well with sedation, and I think the MRI would be too much for her. Even if she has a tumor, I would not treat except for pain/seizure control anyway. So, we take it day by day here. Glad I have all of you!! Much love! seeh2o
How much longer until she is completely cycled off the Pred and Phen? And how long will it take for both of them to clear her system? Guest Energy11
She off the pred, and almost off the pheno. I think, by Tuesday, both should be pretty much out of her system. I WAS going to have the thyroid checked today, but the meds won't be cleared. Sure hope her nights get better for her ... and us. We sleep when we can... she's worth it! seeh2o
I hope so, too, Dee. For all your sakes. Hugs to little Goldie girl. RaineysMom
I hate to post this I still think you're doing the right thing -- and I'm not trying to hijack the thread by any means, but Rainey had a horrible tonic clonic last night when eating her 6pm food/meds :( we at least went 14 days without one, so that's better than every day or every 2 days like it had been, and hopefully they'll stay infrequent. Maybe her thyroid meds just need upping, I don't know. I hope getting her off those 2 does help with the nighttime issues. If she does start having focals again you may want to discuss other meds with your vet (if they even think she needs them for focals? I don't know). And you had mentioned the rectal valium, I think that is only used if a dog has one seizure and then has another, it's to break the chain, not to just treat one seizure. one more question -- when did you start administrating the valium? Was it after she began acting weirdly at night or before? do you think it could be the valium causing it, if you started it at the same time the episodes began? continuing to send you guys hugs :hope Quote Kim and Bruce - with Rick (Rick Roufus 6/30/16) and missing my sweet greyhound Angels Rainey (LG's Rainey 10/4/2000 - 3/8/2011), Anubis (RJ's Saint Nick 12/25/2001 - 9/12/12) and Zeke (Hey Who Whiz It 4/6/2009 - 7/20/2020) and Larry (PTL Laroach 2/24/2007 - 8/2/2020) -- and Chester (Lab) (8/31/1990 - 5/3/2005), Captain (Schipperke) (10/12/1992 - 6/13/2005) and Remy (GSP) (?/?/1998 - 1/6/2005) at the bridge"Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. They are never fun!!! RE: the rectal Valium, yes, it can be used to stop a seizure or multiple seizures, especially a tonic/clonic. I had to use it a few times with humans on the ambulance, RE: the oral Valium ... it was started AFTER these weird episodes. All three vets said to try it, and for the most part, it kind of works. Just takes a WHILE! I even tried giving it about an hour prior to when this all starts last night .. nope. I just don't know. Two weeks today since this all started. I hope something shows up in the thyroid work up. Sending love to Rainey from us here ... NO MORE seizures, Rainey!

WONDERFUL AND NORMAL DURING THE DAY, but , ... two to three hours of HEck at night!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-( I am at a loss ... we see the vet on Tuesday... if thyroid is normal... IT HAS TO BE a brain tumor... so...we lose sleep...we can deal with that! Love, and thanks for yoru support! Dee, John and The Five, ... of course, ... Goldie! NeylasMom
Darn, was hoping to hear her nighttime episodes decreased wtih teh decrease in meds. Still keeping my fingers crossed that they do, or you see something on the thyroid panel. duncan41
I hope that the symptoms lessen as Tuesday approaches. Will keep on praying for Ms. Goldie! Have you given any thought to trying Anipryl if everything else is negative? I'm just grasping at straws because her "light switch" behavior seems much too dramatic for a brain tumor or even CCD. Hang in there Dee. So many people are praying for you, DH and Goldie! Just wish we were closer to lend a hand. She did have some of these symptoms, though, MINOR, prior to her incident 2.5 weeks ago, with the seizure/stroke thing. IF the thyriod comes back normal, then, yes, ... it probably couldn't hurt. She had a two-hour incident last night again, and the Valium barely touches it. As I mentioned many times, during the day, she seems perfectly normal. I will keep you posted. Hugs!
