Guest Sasha
I know it has been a long time since I have posted anything. Just to let everyone know who has helped me in the past (food issues and intestinal problems) Sasha our 4 year old greyhound was put to sleep during surgery on November 24th, the day before Thanksgiving. She had a lot of intestinal issues more then they could fix. It has been very hard. I have had dogs for a good many years and have never lost any of them this young. Both my other 2 dogs passed away of old age or cancer. I wanted to thank everyone who has helped me with advice through the last 2 years. Guest Sasha
Thank you everyone. Just to give a little more information, just in case it can help someone else. I will start from the beginning. We adopted Sasha August 4, 2008. She was 2. In January of 2009: she stopped eating on a Monday and started vomiting. We took her to the vet, who ran tests and said that it looked like there was an obstruction. She went for surgery, turned out it was not an obstruction. They removed part of her secum and said that her intestines just did not look right. After the surgery, we got her back and started on different types of food. I was never able to get solid stools, but the food that I ended up with (after numerous attempts Eagle Pack Holistic Salmon and Saridines) worked. Every now and then she would have bouts of vomiting but it did not last long and she never stopped eating. Her weight was stable and she did not show us any signs of discomfort. On Monday the 22nd of November she stopped eating (which for my girl is really unusual). Monday night she started vomiting and would not keep even water down. I took her to my vet Tuesday. They took x-rays and said that it does not look like an obstruction. They said they would keep her over night and try to feed her in the morning. Tuesday night, my vet calls and said that she does not think that Sasha should be left without medical attention thru the night, so we picked her up and took her to the emergency clinic. My vet nor the emergency clinic could figure out what was going on. We were told so many different things. Wednesday morning we picked her up and called the adoption center that we rescued her from. We ended up taking her there and they took her to a specialist. They did an ultra sound and told us that it looked like her intestines were twisted. They said that they can go in and fix it and will call us if any problems would arise. They called us at 10:34 p.m. on Wednesday and said that she was not doing good and when they went in the problem was worse then they thought. The majority of her intestines would have to be removed and the out come did not look good. We had to make a decision to euthanize her. It was the best decision for her. They said that she was most likely born with this problem and that we were lucky she was with us as long as she was. I miss her so much. She was my first grey and my buddy. I feel lost without her. If she was suffering, she never let me know. Being so young, I thought she would be with us for a long time. The house is empty without her.
