Guest First1Luiggi
Luiggi (KiowaRuiz) 2/97-4/27/10 With a heavy heart I helped Luiggi to go home He arrived on a rainy day and changed my life forever A gentler soul you'd never meet. Luiggi was a true gentlemanhound. Like how he would always wait to let me walk thru a door first, because manners mattered to him. He taught me patience, because he was infinately patient. He did things when he was young, that he gave up in his senior years. I loved how he would jump up like one of santa's reindeer about to take off; front legs hanging straight down; right in front of me without ever touching me (because that would've been rude) And he would ask for what he wanted by sitting, usually that was for a treat. And, okay I have to say it, his post defacatory dance was hilarious, legs flying everywhere. In his middleage he would wink back at me. First time I thought it was a coincidence. But nope, that clever loving hound knew what a wink was. I have witnesses. Throughout his life he always enjoyed a walk, no matter the weather. When I got divorced, it was Weeg that insist we walk everyday, for our health. Luiggi was the most serious dog I ever met. He lived with me 6 months before he ever wagged his tail. Even through our 9 years together, there was never much tail wagging. His joy was from serenity, not fun. He looked his happiest when he was outside, breathing in his surroundings looking for all the world like a calm and peaceful yogi. He was a great travel companion, whether it was camping or in a motel. He enjoyed himself at 8 consecutive Deweys, a couple of Grapehounds, Vermont, Virginia, PA, Canada, Niagara falls and more. As he aged, he became more of a homebody A few years ago. I built a small garden just for him; some shade, some sun. Next to his bed in my bedroom, that garden was his favorite place. In his 13 years he never learned to play, but that boy sure enjoyed a good licking project. A consumate bed hog; He could also turn anything into a pillow. I loved Luiggi with all my heart and soul. He changed me. Today the change is mostly pain, but the lessons and love he so generously and patiently shared with me will eventually overule the sorrow. For now I just wish I could look into his old soul eyes and hear his gentle wuffle. Edited May 4, 2010 by First1Luiggi
