Ozziemydoggy
I thought Iris was doing better! Earlier last month she was vomiting (smelled like poo) so we did the routine fast, feed rice and boiled meat, and she did better. Well last week she started having diarrea again. So we fasted, fed rice and meat and gave her a beef rib on Thursday. She threw it up almost 10 minutes after eating. We began to wonder if we needed to stop feeding raw. So we fed rice and meat Friday. We bought dog food on Saturday (Call of the Wild Salmon) which she ate. Sunday morning, she didn't eat it and was back to pudding diarrea and didn't eat anything Sunday night either. We were really concerned so I took her to the vet this morning. I thought it was maybe a bacterial infection. They did a basic blood panel and everything was normal. So I thought we should leave her overnight with an IV and antibiotics. The tech asked about an x-ray in case something was blocked. She saw a lot of fluid and recommeded getting an ultrasound because it might be a tumor. I went to our regular vet (went to the clinic because they are a walk-in) and did the ultrasound. I bawled the whole way thinking now Iris has cancer. The ultrasound showed that her spleen is enlarged and possibly bleeding they also ran a more extensive panel that showed everything was normal except her WBC count was high. So today at 3:00pm they are going to remove it. Has anyone else gone through this before? What causes the spleen to get like this? I hate her going through all of this. I wish we would have done it sooner. Quote Argo and bridge babies Artemis, Icarus and Iris.

Guest Energy11
Dogs and people can live without a spleen. I am sure everything will be fine. This is probably why she has been having all those problems. Lots of prayers and love sent your way!

TheFullHouse
Unfortunately for us, when our DeeYoGee had an enlarged spleen that was bleeding, it turned out to be cancer. I would have thought they could see any tumors on the ultrasound in your case so it sounds like something different. Ozziemydoggy
Update: Well turns out it wasn't the spleen but an enlarged lymph node. They also found a tumor on her intestine. Both have been removed and the labwork is being sent today. We'll find out what it is on Thursday. I'm not ready to lose another one to cancer!!!
