racindog
I think Zeke's heroic rescue should be submitted to Hero Hounds too. Facts is facts and he jumped in and protected her at great personal risk to himself. He is a brave courageous boy dog! And not to mention being obedient and breaking off and coming to you when you asked him to. I don't think there are many that would do that. Guest Spencers_Greyt
Wow that's some wound! Poor Fiona! I'm glad she's doing well and the pain meds are working for her. I will keep her in my prayers for a quick recovery. Btw - I have motion dector floodlights. Theyr'e the best thing to have!
Fiona3
Fiona is doing extremely well today and is almost back to her usual, bouncy self . She is eating well and seems to have no difficulties because of the missing tooth. She was play bowing to Bailey earlier and was carrying one of her favorite stuffy toys around. The swelling and discoloration around the wound continues to fade and tomorrow she gets the drain removed. What a relief for her and for me. Fiona & her favorite toy - Note: it is a Raccoon! I had to add this photo of Zeke. In the past two years he's been with us, the only wildlife he encounters are squirrels & birds. Fiona is always the leader in the chase and he tends to just follow and run in circles around her but never really tries to catch things. Monday morning was a totally different, aggressive Zeke who suddenly lunged at the raccoon and forced it to run away from Fiona. My heart was in my throat watching him and I was so relieved when he came immediately to me on calling his name. My big goofy boy really was courageous. My Hero Zeke: Now that life is calmer I will have to write this down and submit it to Hero Hounds. He certainly is my hero! greyhndz
Fiona looks wonderful! (except of course for that big, silly-looking whisker sticking out of the right side of her face). What a relief to know that she's healing exactly as you'd hoped for. Zeke - well, he's DA MAN! But the raccoon stuffie has got to go. Can you slip in a fox stuffie when she isn't looking? And Zeke just look at you,you handsome racoon chaser! Thanks Mary - it has been three weeks today since Fiona's adventure with the raccoon. Our vet did a fantastic job of stitching the wound and it has healed nicely. She is completely back to normal, playing and wrestling with Bailey and running around the yard with Zeke (between the rain drops and downpours). Here are two photos from this morning to show how far she has come. The hair still is growing back but it looks nothing like it did at its worst. Note: the raindrops on her nose from being outside! All the good thoughts sent her way absolutely worked their magic! NancyB
I just saw this and I'm so sorry Fiona was attacked! The original picture looks awful but the newest picture she looks great. My Ramm was attacked by a groundhog a couple of years ago and I saw it happen. His damage was nothing like Fiona's.
