dmswartzfager
Pretty boy I hope it's nothing Can you try a bath towel and duct tape instead of the e-collar? Red didn't have any trouble lying down/sleeping when he wore his. Well, the trick is, he paws at his eye. The only way to prevent that is the e-collar. I can't even figure out how bandage that eye without causing even more problems. Any news? Hoping it's nothing major. Poor boy looks so sad about that eye. I put a call in to Dr. Weigt letting her know that Blitz is messing with his eye today and that it does not seem to have improved any. The receptionist said Dr. Weigt has Blitz's file with her (not in the Laurel office today) and she would get my message to Dr. Weigt. The receptionist said Dr. Weigt would get back to us first thing tomorrow, but did ask if we would like to hear back from her today. I emphatically said yes. So the girl said it may be until the end of the day before we hear from her, which is fine. She did offer to bring us in today to see the other doctor, but I declined - it's not *that* bad, I just want to know what the plan is. Didn't think Dr. Cutler would really be able to do anything different (and especially if his file's not there). I've given Blitz 75mg of Benedryl and 75mg of Deramaxx to kind of knock him out and hopefully keep his paw away from his eye. I tried the e-collar again and he was just too stressed by it. It's not *crystal* clear, but not too bad. Ever so slightly cloudy. I'll keep that in mind though - I'm sure he'll have to wear his lampshade at some point, depending on what surgery gets done.... In the meantime, what about wrapping his front paws somehow with vet wrap so when he does rub, he's at least not scratching it. Or he might get discouraged. Or at least he'll be distracted for as long as it takes him to chew the vet wrap off. That should keep him occupied for a while Poor baby!

Two problems with wrapping his legs - one, it roughens up the surface with which he is hitting his eyelid, and since the outer layer of skin is already gone, I think that will make it worse. Then, secondly, a few weeks ago, I put some vet wrap on a sore on his back leg, and he once again refused to lay down!! He stood by my bed and panted in my face or else paced and panted all around the bedroom, driving me nuts!! That was not the first time that has happened, either. I'm sure it goes back to when he first got here and had to be bandaged around his abdomen and also had to have pressure bandages on his front legs - from his toes to his armpits - STRESS!!! So I don't bandage him at all if I can avoid it. He's zonked out on the guest room bed right now and is leaving his eye alone for now. I LOVE my boys, but jeez louise, they drive me crazy! CaliforniaGreys
What a shame for him. Between his eye and the stress and then add your stress. When they came out with the Bite-Not collars I was so thrilled, but they don't work for certain areas. I wish they would come up with something more comfortable than the e-collars. I sure hope you have a solution soon Missing my little Misty who took a huge piece of my heart with her on 5/2/09, and Ekko, on 6/28/12 For the sick, the lost, and the homeless
