Emmy's Diagnosis

Recommended Posts

Glad to hear that Emmy is in such good health. Although the news on her eyes is not what we had hoped, I can't think of a better home and family to help her thru this situation. May Emmy have a calm and gentle adjustment period. Hugs to you as well - it's been a stressful day. :grouphug

Having the answer is knowing the path. Kisses and hugs to sweet Emmy and may her path continue to be lighted by her loving family....

Judy, she will learn to use her sense of smell more. You had to see the way she was smelling Ladybug in Dr. Blackburn's waiting room. She knew there was another greyhound there.

Thinking of you and Emmy. I am sure that she will adjust better and quicker than you think. I am so glad that it wasn't anything more serious though.

I am sorry to hear that her sight is gone :( I remember how upset I was when Freddy lost his sight but, like others have said, it is harder on you than it is on her! There is a lot of good advice on ways to help her adjust and I am sure that she will adapt very quickly! Sending lots of hugs to you and your pup!

I am sorry about the blindness but glad that she is otherwise healthy. I am sure it will take a bit of adjusting but she will be fine. She's in good hands. :grouphug

I'm sorry that she has lost her sight, but I know she will adjust.

I'm sure you will receive a lot of tips on how to make the adjustment easier for her. I think a bell on Andy's collar sounds like something that would be helpful since they are so close.

When my Sami went blind, I started wearing more perfume because I thought it would make it easier for her to find me. She probably didn't appreciate that since their sense of smell is so strong anyway. Sami was also deaf though, so I wanted to be sure that she knew I was around. She went deaf and then blind in her senior years.

I look forward to hearing updates on sweet Emmy. I know she will be fine with all the love she has in her home.

She will adapt quickly. It's sad, but it's not life-threatening. Your girl gets to stay with you and be surrounded by the love and devotion that you and Mike will continue to shower on her. It must be a real relief to know what you're dealing with now... and to know for sure what it ISN'T, that it's not what we always dread it's going to be.

I will continue to keep Emmy in my thoughts! :goodluck:)

I'm very relieved to hear Emmy if fine otherwise...and I'm sure she will LOVE her basketbellball!! Sending prayers that she is adjusts well to her loss of sight. A healthy pack and good owners like you and Mike can make all the difference for her.

Remember...blind dogs see with their heart :beatheart

I cannot see you Mommy, when you cuddle me so near.

And yet I know you love me, it's in the words I hear.

I cannot see you Daddy, when you hold me by your side

But still I know you love me when you tell me so with pride.

I cannot see to run and play out in the sun so bright

For here inside my tiny head it's always dark as night.

I cannot see the treats you give when I am extra good

But I can wag my tail in Thanks just like a good dog should.

"She cannot see. The dogs no good" is what some folks might say

"She can't be trained, she'll never learn She must be put away."

But not you, Mom and Daddy You know that it's alright

Because I love you just as much as any dog with sight.

You took me in, you gave me love and we will never part

Because I'm blind with just my eyes, I see you in my heart.

How very bizarre ... but how wonderful that the rest of her is HEALTHY! Sending scritchies and hopes that she will like her new ball and adapt* quickly.

*Adapt ... verb ... To get all the other people and hounds in the house trained adequately. :) :) :)

So sorry about her sight, but the positive side is that it is nothing internally wrong. Emmy has the best family she could want to help her learn to adapt. I found with Marlee, my deaf puppy, that having the other dogs around has helped her a lot. She was born deaf, so she does not realize that anything is different with her. She just follows what they do. Emmy might be confused right now, but I know you and Mike can help her through that.

When you at least know what you're dealing with you can formulate a plan of action. Good luck, Judy - you'll find just the right solutions to her challenges :grouphug

I am so glad to hear she does not have cancer. I know you guys will do an awesome job of helping her adjust to her blindness; you are already starting by finding ways for her to enjoy a favorite game!

I'm sorry to hear about her sight but know that we are with you and Mike as you all and Emmy learn to adapt.

Is this something that could possibly show up in her sibling? Is it Andy?
