Houndtime
Hi everyone, we're home. Scooter did greyt, and even better my vet did a wonderful job with the whole procedure and stitched him up nicely. Click here to view closer And of course Scooter is not happy about the stitches. And I could really use some GTers clever idea as to how to keep goober head from scraping at his stitches. Any ideas? Please add them Here And thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Friday seems like a lifetime away. John E's stitches were under the lids whereas Scooters are external. John E was in an e-collar for several weeks. You might be more successful because John wound up with corneal abrasion from the stitches. With Scooters on the outside, you should be ok. Can someone lend you an e-collar? Poor boy. He looks sad. Mystella
Hey JFB, sorry for the late response, but know I have been following this thread, I am at my moms and have been having technical difficulty. Glad to hear the scooterman did great through his surgery and I am continuing to visualize that "it's benign" post that you will be doing soon . The only suggestion I can think of for the scratching is the dreaded e collar or else putting something over his back paws. Then he will be mad about that and will be chewing at his feet instead. Hugs from Faith and I. And from STella too who is still at home with daddy and still being forced to wear bitter apple sprayed stocking over her boo boo Quote Take the time to stop and smell the flowers - appreciate your everyday ordinary miracles Carolyn, Faith, Jeff Gordon (aka Jeffy) and Oscar the chilla. Jennifer
Thank you Carolyn. How'd he do last night? Did he pass out and sleep the entire night? Well, believe it or not, he did really well! Here's an update: Last night while hanging out the house AND all night while sleeping Scooter never bothered his stitches, save for one time we "wiped" that side of his face/ eye on the pillow of his chair. That was it. I gave him a half a benadryl last night and he conked out. And you all already know how sound Scooter sleeps anyway so this was basically knocking him out. This morning I put his drops in his eyes and gave him another half of a benadryl and did NOT make him wear the lampshade. I don't want my poor boy any more uncomfortable than he has to be, and seeing as he didn't bother them at all last evening and over night, I think he will be ok today. I'll be going home at lunch to check on him though, just in case. So, keep fingers & paws crossed that he'll behave. And when I was leaving he could barely keep his eyes open so I think he'll be to tired to mess with them. I also have some pictures pre and post surgery that I can post for those that would like to see them, very educational. However they are graphic. What do you think Kari, you saw them. Should I post them? Quote Welcome home Quixote (formerly known as Whytell Mango) My Beloved Scooterman October 16, 1998 - October 11, 2007

Jennifer
OK, I'm going to edit and post the email my vet sent me with the pictures. ***WARNING...GRAPHIC IMAGES BELOW*** No surgery pictures... just the preliminary exam and post-op check, plus a picture of the cut surface of the growth. Sometimes I forget how bizarre these things look to people who don't see it all the time and I don't want to gross you out. If you don't want to see them, press DELETE now!! This is after the surgery area was clipped. The metal thing is a cannula. It's blunt, and lightly curved to fit into the tear duct. It helped me identify both the opening and the tear duct during surgery. It looks like a needle in the picture but it's not at all sharp. You can see how close the growth area is to the tear duct area. Naturally, I couldn't take any pics during the surgery, and you probably don't really want to see those anyway *g*. The next picture is after I was done and I wanted to check the tear area again. It was preserved. This is the growth on a gauze. I cut it in half to see what the inside looked like. As you can see, it was very dark and you can hardly tell where the inside and the outside begins and ends. Finally, this is Scooter's eye after he woke up Feel free to share the pictures if you want - maybe it'll help a hound somewhere. Does anyone need smelling salt?
