  1. We have had a couple of GH's bite thier nails over the years. I never considered it an issue, just a weirdness. : lol However, your issue, since she is breaking the skin, is very disconcerting. My first thought is boredom. Perhaps consider adding an enrichment toy or a treat toy, like a kong. Also, remember that a tired dog is a good dog. Consider longer walks and harder playtime. Please remember that paw infections can be tough to treat, so be aware of them. As an odd thought, perhaps some boots or socks with bitter apple can help deter her. Stress could be a factor also. Good luck and please keep us updated.
  2. Have you tried a topical salve? Our first greyhound developed a "taco" discharge after a bath. I had to slip a little Panalog "salsa" in there for a week or so. That cleared it right up.
  3. He will love you forever after a few handjobs. :rofl
  4. Where, exactly, are you putting your nose to sniff?
  5. FYI, you can get Hill's and a couple of other prescription foods from Petsmart. Just get a 'script from the Vet and take it there. They put the script on record and you can buy and try any of the 'script foods. Come on Brin!!
  6. There is nothing to worry about with greyhound naked-ness. I give Danny 10 mg. a day of melatonin and has ass hair started growing. It does take several months to happen. Danny has no issues with the dosage.
  7. My girls get one pill Mon., Wed., and Fri., and I skip the weekend all together.
  8. Eat Brin eat more!! We have fed rotisserie chicken with no issues. When Dylan was sick, he ate deli sliced roast beef. It had to be Boar's Head. If we bought store brand, he scoffed at us and walked away in disgust. :rofl :rofl
  9. I am very sorry for your loss. Please feel free to post her eulogy in Remembrance when you are able.
  10. Both true, it is very rare and linked to raw diet and filthy living conditions, as I recall. I am fully convinced to most of our average Vets have never seen it. By average, I mean local and most accessible to the average people. I am betting all the Vets I have been to over the years have never heard of it. And this is not a slight to Vets is any way. I have only heard of one GH being "diagnosed" with it and I never believed the diagnosis at all. No tests were run, a few scrapings were taken and suddenly, after the owners kept prompting the Vet about Ala. Rot, the Vet acquiesced and gave them a yes, is how I am convinced it happened. Totally bogus. I no longer remember if the GH lived or passed. It also was in a pet home. Which is another reason why I believe the "diagnosis" was bogus.
  11. Yup, overthinking it. If the half-chain works well for you and you ARE NOT leaving it on when the dog is unattended, go for it.
  12. ThunderShirt is about the only product I tout. In our house, we have two success stories with Disco and Deuce. Does it make them normal during a storm? No, of course not. But it does makes them less stressed. Disco used to hide behind Danger and pant and quiver. Now, most of the time, he flops on a bed and sleeps. Deuce used to jump on the sofa and pant uncontrollably, drool, and violently shake. Now, for the most part, she will just lay on the sofa, mildly pant, and look around. However, do not just buy a TS, slap it on in the middle of a storm and expect a miracle. Read the "training" or familiarization instructions that TS provides. I was absolutely adamant and consistent when we got the first one. I made sure Kevin did it too. Happy, sunshiny days, whip out the TS, give a treat and let Deuce and Disco wear it. 10 or 15 minutes later, remove the TS and give Deuce and Disco a treat. Happy times, fun times. We did this many, many times, so much so that the other dogs no longer look for treats when we break out the TS's. They know they are not getting a treat, so there is no reason to get up from their beds. Now when we hear a storm, we whip out the TS, put it on, give a treat, and go back to whatever we were doing. Today Deuce actually ate her dinner while wearing her TS, during a storm. However, there are still times when our storms are bad enough that all the dogs will react a bit. That is just life, we cannot plan for everything. When we are not at home and a storm hits, again, that's life, the dogs manage themselves. Kevin and I know the house is secure and safe to the best of our abilities and that is the most we can do. This is a ThunderShirt:
  13. Train the humans to be careful with their food and not leave it unattended within reach of the greyhound.
  14. While I don't know about shipping to the UK, but they are on Amazon.
  15. All my full fabric martingale do the same thing when the leash is attached and the dog is walking nicely at my side. Not a big deal, in my opinion.
  16. Yes, they grow back. Deuce will lose the same back toenail about once a year. I keep a boot on that foot for about a week or so after she loses it.
  17. There is nothing wrong with either collar, depending on the dog and the situation. A half-chain is fine in training or on leash. Personally, I would NEVER leave a half-chain martingale or a full chain collar on any dog full time.
