  2. All dogs shed. The curly coated dogs shed, but the hairs stay in the coat, instead of falling on the floor. Yeah, I always loved the tale of the greyhound that doesn't shed. I am still waiting to find this mythical beast.
  3. Hookworms. Treat aggressively got hookworms, regardless of the the fecal says.
  4. If it is not actively bleeding, that is all I would do in my house. Keep an eye on it and if he is not limping, he'll live.
  5. Sounds like a very good weight to me.
  6. Sounds like a normal greyhound to me.
  7. New pet insurance. Has anyone used it or looked into it?
  8. A ton of American greyhound farms are in the midwest, so greyhound puppies grow up in all types of weather. Once weaned, most puppies have the run of a fenced area with some sort of shelter available from the weather. Most often the dogs stay in pens/yards until time for race training at about 12 to 14 months. Often the pen shelters are open and the puppies can choose to sleep indoors or outside. So, yes greyhounds are exposed of all sorts of weather here in the USA. However, all American adoption groups have clauses about leaving greyhounds outside unattended, even inside a fenced yard. As a long time dog owner, I would never leave any of my animals alone outside in our fenced yard for an extended period of time, much less overnight. I am not afraid to assert myself and I will make my dogs come inside. That is what collars, leashes, and voice commands are all about.
  9. Argue in the other thread. As with EVERY thread on GreyTalk, if you don't like it, move on.
  10. That's it! Thanks Ellen! You're well-trained. Oops, I mean the Best, you're the best!
  11. Can someone please post the link for the "Truth Your Dog Off-lead" article? Why not to... I ran a quick search, but there are too many threads with "trust" in them.
  12. There is nothing wrong with what you are feeding. I have fed Purina One Lamb & Rice for years with no issues. If your dog is doing well on it, continue. Feeding animals is about what works for you and your budget, and what works for the dog. NEVER feel pressured into feeding a higher prices food. Just because 27000000000000 people shun a food is not a reason to use it. And conversely, just because 27000000000000 say it's the BEST food ever, does not mean it is. The key is what works for your dog and budget. As for the amount you are feeding, my thought is that it is a lot of food. My four greys get 2 cups of food mixed with some of whatever leftovers we have, topped with a spoon of yogurt, ONCE a day. They also get acidophilus pills. We do not have Labbie-fat greyhounds, or dogs in general. Hooks are a PITA to get rid of. They required repeated worming over several weeks, for a few months. They are a major pain. Remember that a fecal test only shows what is in that bit of poop and only that sample. False negatives for hooks are very common. As for hooks causing hunger, I have never noticed it. The main thing I saw was refusal to eat, excessive tummy gurgling, and really, really nasty poops during that day. With Danger, the flair would last about 24 hours. Good luck and let us know how things work out.
  13. Long nails can and do cause foot pain. In my home, I would make an conscious effort and ensure his nails are trimmed and watch him for a few months before doing anything more. And keep Tramadol on hand.
  14. We are on our 11th greyhound, with over 20 years of being greyhound owners. We have had to return 2. No shame, no drama, no regrets. Neither dog was a fit for our home. End of statement. I will simply reiterate once again, return the dog to the group.
  15. I will say it again, return the dog to the group! It is far easier for both the dog and the group!
  16. Disco had most of his tail amputated and did perfectly fine. There is nothing to worry about.
  17. If anyone uses Oravet dental chews for their dogs, this is an outstanding price!!
