  1. I am so sorry that it was your boy's time to leave you. I will add Max's name to the list of Bridge Angels here on Greytalk.
  2. The original post is 3 years old and they haven't looked at any replies since November 2020.
  3. Punkin, I presume that potted tree looked very dry and needed attention. Hada used to hike her leg and simultaneously squat, almost like a curtsy, but she got that pee where she wanted it to go.
  4. I don't trust Dr Morgan's propaganda at all. Additional negative comments here on FB: https://skeptvet.com/Blog/2024/01/science-science-denial-drug-development-a-response-to-dr-judy-morgan/?fbclid=IwAR2H1vCYajl-koVfZwF0NoiqLtR8lXFIgFNGhsnHNj49ynzSNMCH1Hi597E
  5. It's been 13 days since Howie's first injection. By the end of the first week I saw improvement. Now he is more flexible when coming up off his bed in the morning. I am also seeing him more active during the day as well. And perhaps I'm reading too much into his facial expression, but I am not seeing pain there anymore. Regarding the FB page, the bad stories about Librela are scary so I no longer view the page. I see the different opinions akin to discussions about dog food brands that are good vs horrible.
  6. Say hello to my new girl from Ireland, Freshy (Droopys Fresh). She'll be 8 years old in April, was in 17 races and won 3, and had one littler of 6 puppies. Greyhound Friends of NC has been bringing over hounds from Ireland and the UK. Freshy flew over Feb 7th and she joined our podenco pack on Feb 10th. She's a BIG girl that my littles can walk right under. This was the only photo I saw of her, posing with Millie the small dog tester for the Irish Retired Greyhound Trust. Freshy looks petite to me, but alas, objects in the mirror are not smaller than they appear. Tell me you're a big dog without telling me you're a big dog. Each bed is 36"x26" Dinner time She did great on the 3 hour car ride home. Doesn't mind going out in the rain to potty. And she even has a few white fur spots on her back. I FB messaged her training kennel and got an immediate reply back: Hi, thanks for reaching out. We always called fresh “freshy”. She’s always had a lovely temperment. She bred one litter and we intended to breed her again but she had fertility issues. She may have had a couple of niggles in her race career but nothing major. She has a little indent on her neck where she got a bite when she was a pup from one of her litter comrades. Fresh thrives off routine. She’s very clever and knows her kennel. You could let her off anywhere on the property and she would always head back to her exact bed. It’s great to see she’s found a home all the way in North Carolina. We were very fond of her, she’s a lovely dog. Thanks for taking her into your home.
  7. What's worked with mine: - keeping the leash short so my hound is right beside my hip - no sniffing since this walk is just for exercise - any treat should be a really high value one that he gets at no other time other than on walks - when mine would stop I would stop and not pull on the leash, and I'd say very little to her if anything - then I move her in a very tight circle with her at my hip, just turning in place until we are facing the opposite direction from where we'd been heading. - then take a few steps before turning tight again to be facing the way I wanted her to go - diffuse the signal that you are taking him for a walk by putting on your coat, picking up the leash, wandering slowly around the house, then put leash down and take your coat off. You can also add in clipping the leash on but still not going out the door. - repeat that at odd intervals before you really head out to walk him
  8. Cindy, you really need to start a Faith-fool blog, or keep a "Dear Diary, today Faith...", or at least keep a list on the refrigerator in a locking notebook in a safe hidden behind a painting on the wall. Cindy: Remember when we had a full set of flatware? David: Remember when you encouraged me to take a physics class to study Dirt Displacement Theory?
  9. Lovely story. I've added Cole's name to the list of our January Bridge Angels. Don, are you going to his concert? If so, be sure to wear a greyhound-design tee shirt.
  10. I've been reading the Librela Experiences FB page. There are indeed some sad stories, but good ones as well. At least I've learned to be very alert to any side effects. I mentioned the FB page and my vet said she follows all the Librela pages. She first used it on her very old cat and he did well on it. Howie got his first shot this morning and I hope it helps. He didn't help himself though when he jumped into my living chair (rather than the lower ottoman) and promptly did a face plant when he jumped off before I could catch him.
  11. Thanks for the link. I've asked to join the page since its a private group.
  12. Saying goodbye to the beautiful greyhounds and their friends who left us in February 2024. As you run with the wind send a caress to wipe our tears. Gone but never forgotten. Loved forever. Run free with those who have gone before you. Greet all those that will follow. Moonpie, the schnoodle River, the lab Max Cathy Kiburtz, founder and president of GreySave Ginger, the Greyhound Hall of Fame greeter They'll always be with us, just slightly beyond the point that we can see with our eyes. In our heart, though, they'll be bright and clear, as they always were.
  13. @Potomacpupsmom @FiveRoooooers How soon did you see improvement after the first injection? I priced it when I was at the vet today. $98 + office visit fee for the the first shot. Further injections wouldn't require the office visit unless I had a concern.
  14. What is the average price per monthly injection for greyhounds? Is there an office visit charge if you are only getting the injection done? I'm debating switching podenco Howie from meloxicam to Librela.
  15. Mark, so glad to hear you got your birthday fries even though your dad abandoned you. Just in case you ever want to move east, the closest McD's is just3 minutes away.
  16. So, Sammy's staying right? Merlin, member of the spikybush sh*ttersclub
  17. Definitely contact Dr Couto. There's a fee but it is well worth it. Your vet can send all diagnostic reports to him or you can copy them to him. He has diagnosed some rare things in greyhounds, including in one of my old boys - he'd only encountered it twice before. He is often traveling the world so you may not hear back immediately. He's doing an online greyhound health seminar on Sunday, but I can't find the link at the moment. In my experience of emailing him directly, I suggested listing each separate thing numerically. I found that much easier to say "what about #7?" than having to copy/paste the same question. And keep it in bullet points rather than big paragraphs. Here's the link to Dr Couto's online seminar, scroll down to All Things Greyt. https://greyhoundhealthinitiative.org/?fbclid=IwAR2btrx3-Wa5vGr4APtuY4lvD1AK1KiktnT26JKcyMwdr-x6Y9hl139T_o8
  18. Yes, one must also look both ways before exiting one's hotel room! I really like the design for this year's tee short.
  19. Voted! Rachel, what a lovely write-up you made for your girl! I say since Doolin got a bunny that Willa should get a crown.
  20. I have tucked Molly in with our November angels. I'm so sorry that your girl had to leave you.
  21. I understand, Nadine. I had a hard time giving up on my Honda Element. I kept it well maintained yet it let me down too many times. How are your dogs liking their new wheels?
  22. I helped a new adopter with this problem by" Better treats, not a boring biscuit I stood by the open car door while owner encouraged her girl to jump in the boot. She could smell the bits of chicken I offered and jumped in quickly. We repeated this 5 times, then took a short break by walking around the yard. We then switched places at the side door and boot. In she went. Took another break and went back into the house. Fifteen minutes later went out to the car and she hopped in with only the owner asking her to. (I was at the side door but it was not open.) Owner continued to train getting her into the boot, even when they weren't going to drive anywhere. They'd just sit in the car and relax.
  23. When I saw my vet today with Rita I asked hr about that 3.5. She'd never seen a UPCR that high before. We got interrupted and I wasn't able to ask her any more about it. No lab work today but Rita's SMDA in December was 11 on a scale of 0-14 by Idexx Laboratories. On that page it was directly listed between GLU SDMA CREA BUN BUN/CREA was 24 but that was considered within normal range although no range numbers were listed. Yet the lab added the comment that a complete urinalysis should be done. BUN/CREA is different than the UPCR. Over the past 2 years my vets here have replied on the SDMA as their standard for determining kidney failure. It is a blood, not urine, test. And it is included in the larger routine panels.
