  1. I tried Grandma Lucy's. I has way too much garlic for my dogs. It reeks of garlic. Even mixing with kibble it was too strong.
  2. It's a great deal but my guys didn't do so well with it. Dang it!
  3. Really!? I was going crazy trying to find the right diet this year and the last time Dr C. saw MC he said the kidney guys are split on the issue of diet now and not to worry about it. Just feed him what he wants to eat. Maybe because MC is 12 and it can't help him at this age.
  4. Yes, I always dread this has happened when we do well on a food and then have problems. After a couple of fecal tests to rule out bugs and some research (cross referencing for their kindey concerns) I think we will try the new Nutro Grain Free either venison or turkey. Although Dr. C. says the renal diet debate is split down the middle as to whether it makes much difference. Blue has some good ones also but they have peas which you avoid for kidney issues apparently. My vet offered the Royal Canin also and to try to get us a Kangaroo blend but We'll try this first. It's not allergies, just sensitive tummies. We've got some Met. and Fortiflora also to get things settled down.
  5. Is anyone else having problems feeding California Natural? We've been using it for about a year-Lamb and Rice small bites. They did well at first. Over the past few months the gas has gotten exponentialy worse and there have been bouts of soft stools and big D. I'm thinking it's time to switch to something with limited ingredients.
  6. SLO can be a frustrating thing to deal with. The slow bloody loss of all the nails can take a while. Arwen eventually lost every nail even though she was being treated with the standard protocol listed above. (no Pred!)But then she grew back some reaaly gnarly looking nails and lost no more for almost 2 years. She just lost one last month and I feared we were starting again. We interrupted her SLO treatment for a few months of chemo for hemangiosarcoma so now have started up again. Tetracyclin is very hard to get now. The drug companies just aren't makeing it. There is a Yahoo group called SLO Dogs that can give you some more info for comparison. Best of Luck!
  7. The Yahoo group is a great source of info. We did not do Pred with Arwen but the other regimen and she has done really well. After the original round of nail loss where she lost every one she has not gone out of remission in 3 years. Her nails are soft-ish and twisted but she has nails.
  8. Allie sounds exactly like my Abby who is 14. She has always been a little snarky and fearful and is much worse now that she is older. She has both LS and LP and is much too stressed at the vet to make treating either easy. She gets Gabapentin or Tramadol but I really don't think the Tramadol helps. The Depo shots-I have never had a dog that responded to them. Shilo had wonderful results from Acupunture treatments. Would be great to find someone who comes to the house for you. Probably would help with the LP also. Shi had the tie back at age 12 and did really great. I will not put Abby through the strees at her age. Honestly, the 20 minute ride in the car could do her in. Best of luck in finding something to help your girl.
  9. Agree that an undigestable object would not be too bad. We thought that was what Cooper had last summer but the x-ray showed something much worse.
  10. Totally normal. And could last for about 2 weeks so tell him to be prepared. The pain patches sometimes will make greys react that way. Seemed like it always happened in the night. Zinger loved popcicles so he got as many as he wanted. P.S. I have a Loki, too, but he is a cat!
  11. I did the tie back for Shilo at age 12 while he was undergoing chemo for lymphoma. He did great and had no complications even though they had trouble getting the sutures to stay during the surgery. He was much more comfortable.
  12. No help for the old girl but then she's just looney. Seems to help my foster some but her behavior during storms is just to lie there and shake.
