No ascites but his blood proteins were very low so, either it went undiagnosed or we got him on the corticosteroids in time. I don’t think just 6 doses of pred one would see a difference just yet.

There are new medications available now that are being used to treat IMHA vs just pred. Hopefully, you will be able to see an internal medicine Dr versed in the newer protocols. IMHA can be treated...don't give up.

This sounds like classic symptoms of PLE as the result of IBD (been down that road). Like you we started with pred and eventually switched to Budesonide. My boy stayed stable for 3 years before the inflammation eventually morphed into cancer. IBD is a daily struggle but, if you stay diligent to medication and food protocols it is manageable. Has the internal med Dr recommended a hypoallergenic food for you yet? What finally worked for my boy was rabbit.

Check for water diabetes . AKA diabetes insipidus. edited to add..greyhounds typically have a lower blood protein as well as a lower WBC count.

Have him checked for EPI

Oh I'm terribly sorry. I know what its like to lose an oldie. A few years back I lost a wonderful old lady ..I lost my 32+year Clydesdale cross to osteo of all things. As a vet tech that worked in a radiation center I have seen all types of dogs with various personalities actually do really well. I assume your dog will be receiving CFRT radiation. The treatments are super short but, as I’m sure you’re aware the patient needs to be completely motionless. We used a short acting sedation (typically IV butrophanol) and propofol as the induction agent. The pet was placed on anesthetic gas..in our case we used sevoflurane but, many clinics use isoflurane. The first few treatments are trial and error regarding medication dosages..often they are tweaked once it is realized the needs of your pet. If the treatments will prolong the duration of remission I would pursue. Remember if it becomes too emotional to continue for you or your pet treatments can be discontinued..but, remember without doing the full protocol the expected remission will not be achieved.

I assume the vet was concerned because there were raisins in the cake? How’s the urine specific gravity? If the BUN has been stable and the BUN is still close to what is was I would tend not to worry. He could just be slightly dehydrated (it’s awfully hot out where I’m at).

Regarding the tattoo…..Irish? The Irish hounds only have letters and usually just 3. Is the 1 & O clear?

I’m late to the party but I thought I would interject….have you checked for for proteinuria? When a dog tosses protein through the urine he/she is losing antithrombin also by default. Check that urine :-)

I would ask your veterinarian if they have a petmap and if so if they would lend it out. The most accurate way to obtain an accurate reading is with a Doppler but those are more challenging to use and often it’s a two person task.

I would consider a full thyroid panel run by MSU with an endocrinologist review

Just wanted to chime in and comment what a jerk that vet was..he/she sounded so rude...there’s no place for that-it’s never a bad idea to get a second opinion. You might start by just getting a few chest x-rays and an ecg-super simple and no need to sedate. There’s also a specific blood panel that can be done-again super simple.

Check for proteinuria. If she’s losing protein through her urine it could make her pre-disposed for a stroke (ischemic). Honestly, I would even consider starting her on daily low dose aspirin.

Is the vet that diagnosed FCE a neurologist?

I would seek a veterinary neurologist consult

Dark/brown discharge isn’t always concerning, however, green/yellow/white discharge is. I would send your vet a few photos to have them assess. Greyhounds can have allergies, panus etc...best to have your vet take a peek. Eyes should always be looked at by a professional.

Did you test for DM? There is a specific test available. If you didn’t there may be another condition you may be dealing with (LS, disc, cancer). Hope the neurologist can help.

I wouldn’t hesitate to use the Seresto collar. Many of those claims can not be confirmed with the use of the collars. Keep in mind some of those collar purchases could potentially be counterfeit. This is no different than the recent bravecto scare.
