  1. Molly had the "neck pain" diagnosis about a month ago. My vet gave her a shot (muscle relaxer, I think) and put her on Tramadol and strict rest, no walks. She x-rayed, and said it was a slipped disc. Molly got better, talked me into taking her for a short walk, and relapsed . So, more Tramadol, three weeks no walkies, and I now use a harness instead of a collar. She is fine. edited to add, Molly just turned 9 in May
  2. I hope Phene had a good day today. My only experience with acupuncture and osteo was the vet I took Sugar to for acupuncture was primarily an oncologist who learned acupuncture to help her cancer patients. She also took some non-cancer acupuncture patients, which Sugar was lucky enough to be one.

    I am so sorry
  4. I've been following along, but not posting cause I didn't have anything useful to add It does sound like things are getting better. I do know feet (dog & human) are a major pain, it is so hard not to use your feet! Sallie had a spoon splint when she broke her toe. It was one of the inside toes, and the break wasn't "clean". She kept it on for, I think, about three weeks, with bandage changes every few days (and lots of padding). It really did help support the foot and keep the toes from moving. I am sorry this hasn't been easy, but you and Beth will get through this
  5. I am so sorry not only cancer, but a weird one The only food advice I have is, the stinkier the better, green tripe and Bill's shaky cheese (aka Parmesan cheese) are two things that worked for me.
  6. So glad to hear the beautiful Albi is home! I hope his recovery is quick and easy
  7. It could still have been a bug/spider bite, sometimes the bite is almost invisible. But, that should have improved after a few days, not sure how long this has been going on?
  8. I am so sorry sometimes the "challenging" ones take the biggest piece of your heart
  9. I tried Missing Link for my old girl when she started having problems with arthritis, but it didn't agree with her.
  10. I've just recently "upgraded" Fletcher's supplements to a high dose of glucosamine. I am hoping it will be enough, but I think he's going to need to upgrade his pain meds too I have arthritis myownself, and find the supplements to be a help, but mine isn't too bad yet. To answer the original question, the lowest dose of meds possible is always best, especially for something that you will be giving long term, but obviously, it needs to be enough to work.
  11. You have to be careful with glucosamine supplements, lots of them (and not just "generics") don't have the amount they claim, at least not in a useful form. I've found with my own supplements, I can really tell the difference between brands. Fletcher has been on supplements, and pain meds as needed, for arthritis in his shoulders for about three years. He is only 9 The Joint Health from Springtime has been good for him until recently. I've noticed him having trouble getting up, and the old man walk, like he is trying to limp on both back legs at the same time, and falling when he takes corners too fast, so I think he's now got it in his hips, too. I've ordered him some Dasuquin. It has a much higher amount of glucosamine, and is kind of the "gold standard" of supplements. It is more expensive. Another thing I've found that helps me (and so I am assuming it would work for the dogs too) is MSM, and it is pretty cheap.
  12. I believe heart murmurs are not uncommon for greys. Sugar had premature ventricular contractions and a leaky valve. She was on lasix and enalapril, and did just fine. After a couple of years, her heart did start to enlarge on the "bad" side, and we added pimboden. She was 11 by then, and her heart continued to do ok. She developed some other unrelated health issues, and I lost her to kidney failure at 12 1/2. The pimboden may have contributed to that, or maybe not , but her heart was still working pretty well at the end. If Althea's murmur is mild, it shouldn't cause her any problems
  13. Poor girl, but she will do just fine without those nasty teeth!
  14. Whining is a great stress releaser, so whine as much as you need to!
