  1. Sending good thoughts for you and your man dog.
  2. Not much nutrition in rice. Cheaper kibble still has to meet guidelines (at least in Canada) for essential nutrients and vitamins. Some will say you can't mix raw and kibble but science doesn't support that. It's all the same in a dog's stomach.
  3. We just went through this with our lab cross. She was on Percocet which is an usual treatment, Gabapentin and eventually prednizone and tramadol. I would discuss these options with your vet. Hailey had radiation, chemo and a bone building drug, so her situation is likely different from yours. She seemed fairly normal on the Percocet (oxycodone) however.
  4. Been wondering how Stolie's doing. As Greysmom says...the stats say that an infection can be helpful. Hope he beats it quickly though.
  5. Sending healing thoughts for your Phoenix!
  6. Phew! Kind of sounds like it was a bite. Keep an eye on it just in case.
  7. Twenty years is a great achievement on both sides. Well done, Baron and your DD.
  8. A beautiful and wise canine soul. Your tribute was also beautifully written.
  9. With respect to the Percocet, I think it does slow the gut process down. That was our experience. How long does he have to be on it?
  10. A lovely tribute. You were both blessed by your relationship. Godspeed Freddie.
  11. Just checking in on Stolie. Looks like he's doing great. Nice pics.
  12. My thoughts are with you in this sad time. Nine is far too young to go.
  13. It's Calgary...it's what the market will bear. We had very fancy radiation ($$$$$) chemo and bone rebuilders, which was $1500 a pop...but it probably saved her from breaking her leg as she was still blowing off the deck after squirrels a couple days before she...was released for her next journey...
  14. Very sorry to see this. Recently went through with the whole osteo treatment (but not amputation) at Western with Hailey, our lab cross. We got a 9 month life extension for about $24,000, of which insurance paid $5000. Not sure I would do it again. I have a few other comments if you are interested, but let's PM. An xray of the lungs is a good place to start, to check whether the cancer has established itself somewhere else.
  15. Don't beat yourself up. It sounds like something (a clot or stroke?) that could have happened at any time. What a terrible shock. My heart goes out to you.
  16. We used a baby gate and treats to distract. If that didn't break his fixation, out came the squirt gun.
